Wahlberg took to his Instagram Story to share a photo from the first table read for the show.

“A new chapter,” he wrote on the image, which shows place cards for both Wahlberg and his co-star, Star Trek: Discovery‘s Sonequa Martin-Green

In Boston Blue, Wahlberg will reprise his role as NYPD officer Danny Reagan. The show follows Danny as he leaves New York City to take a job with the Boston Police Department. Once in Boston, he teams up with detective Lena Silver (Martin-Green), the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family. The cast also includes Psych alum Maggie Lawson and Ghostbusters star Ernie Hudson, as well as Gloria Reuben and Marcus Scribner.

Wahlberg also teased the new show at a New Kids on the Block fan event in Las Vegas on July 5. The singer and actor spoke to the crowd at the Official Right Stuff NKOTB Residency After Party following the group’s final performance in their Vegas residency until November.

“I gotta start filming a TV show on Monday,” he said in the video a fan shared on Instagram. “You know, this is what we’re going to be doing on Fridays until we get back here in November. Let’s go!”

CBS Keeps Canceling Fan-Favorite Shows, and People Are Outraged

Boston Blue will premiere this fall on CBS, with episodes airing in Blue Bloods’ old timeslot of 10 p.m. ET. An exact premiere date has not been announced.

In May, Wahlberg spoke about how excited he was to revisit his fan-favorite Blue Bloods character in a new setting. He played the NYPD detective for 14 seasons, starring alongside Tom Selleck, Bridget Moynahan, and Will Estes.

“I think it’s an incredible opportunity,” he told Extra. “I love the Reagan family. Viewers love the Reagan family. And it went away. And here’s an opportunity to bring it back, to carry on those traditions … I think the audience will get what we’re doing when they see the show.”

While Wahlberg is the only Blue Bloods cast member confirmed to appear in the new show, he promised that Boston Blue would include “updates” on what’s going on with other members of the family. He also hinted that some familiar Blue Bloods faces could pop up in Boston.

“I know what the fans want,” he added. “And I will not let them down.”
