‘Doubling Down With the Derricos’ Star GG Shares Major Health Update
Marian “GG” Derrico from TLC’s Doubling Down With the Derricos is taking a new approach to her cancer treatment.
In a social media update on May 27, the reality TV personality and her son, Deon Derrico, opened up about her decision to explore alternative therapies to treat her lung cancer.
Chemo ‘roughed me up,’ the ‘Doubling Down With the Derricos’ star says
GG was first diagnosed with lung cancer in 2014. In 2022, she learned the cancer had returned. Since then, she’s been undergoing treatment for the disease. But the traditional approach to battling her condition has left her feeling wiped out, she said.
“This last bout of chemo roughed me up,” the fan-favorite grandma said in the Instagram video.
Now, GG is looking at other options for treatment, she says.
“I know I want to try the holistic,” she said, adding that she might go to Mexico for treatment or look for providers in the United States.
“She feels that the modern-day medicine has taken her as far as it’s going to take her,” her son Deon chimed in.
GG said she wasn’t rejecting modern medicine outright. However, she feels that “it’s [run] its course with me.”
One thing was clear: GG has no intention of letting her cancer keep her down.
“I love life and I want to be here a lot longer,” she said.
Doubling Down With the Derricos fans were quick to share alternative treatment recommendations and names of practitioners with GG, and she and Deon thanked them for their concern and well wishes.
Deon shares an update on his relationship with Karen Derrico
During the lengthy video, Deon also answered a fan question about his relationship with his ex-wife, Karen Derrico. Karen and Deon stunned Doubling Down With the Derricos fans in June 2024 when they announced they were splitting up after nearly twenty years together. The pair share 14 children, including two sets of twins, quintuplets, triplets, and two singletons.
“We don’t always see eye to eye but we are a family,” Deon said of his relationship with Karen. While he and Karen are no longer together, they remain united when it comes to parenting their children, he added.
Deon also dropped details about when Doubling Down With the Derricos might return to TV. While TLC has not shared any updates about the future of the show, Deon has confirmed that his family has been filming new episodes, which he says will air at the “end of this year, beginning of next year.”
Doubling Down With the Derricos is streaming on discovery+. Select seasons are also streaming on Max.
