KPop Demon Hunters is a vibrant and imaginative animated musical from 2025 that blends K-pop spectacle with supernatural fantasy. Set in a stylish, music-infused world, the story centers on a powerhouse girl group called Huntr/x, comprised of Rumi, Mira, and Zoey. The group electrifies stadiums worldwide and carries the secret duty of demon hunting to protect humanity.

According to NBC News, everyone should expect to see a lot of KPop Demon Hunters-inspired Halloween costumes in 2025. Retailers have been rushing to produce enough colorful wigs and jackets to match the iconic characters.

Boston-based fashion blogger Jean Wang told the publication that she was thrilled when her daughter wanted to dress up as the purple-haired protagonist, Rumi. “I remember, growing up, the struggle at Halloween to find a costume that felt ‘me,’” Wang said. “It’s definitely refreshing and exciting to see the ‘it’ costume of the year, for people of all backgrounds, being a female Asian character.”

“My daughter is definitely aware that the characters ‘look more like her,’” Wang continued. “But at the end of the day, Rumi is a brave, talented, and fierce character who also shows vulnerability in a very relatable way.”

‘KPop Demon Hunters’ costume popularity proves that kids and families are finding new heroes outside of the Western classics

KPop Demon Hunters has quickly become a pop culture phenomenon due to how it fuses Korea’s vibrant modern life with fantasy and folklore. The film captures the pulse of contemporary Seoul, from neon-lit streets and sleek technology to the intense pressure of idol culture. Through its girl-group heroines, KPop Demon Hunters reflects the duality of Korean youth: polished public personas hiding personal struggles. It offers international audiences a colorful look at modern Korean life through an animated lens.

So, what does the Halloween costume popularity say about pop culture in 2025? Ten years ago, the most popular costumes for kids revolved around superheroes (Batman and Wonder Woman, for example), classic Disney princesses, and ’90s pop stars rooted in Western culture (Britney Spears and the Spice Girls), according to ABC News. With the rise of KPop Demon Hunters, kids throughout America embrace heroes that don’t come from the West.

It also shows the rise in the global spread of media. K-pop, K-dramas, and Korean films have surged in popularity, with YouTube and Netflix greatly helping the spread. Artists like BTS and Blackpink continue to dominate the charts. And Netflix shows, like Squid Game, proved immensely popular and beloved by the West.

KPop Demon Hunters aside, those going out for Halloween should expect to see many Labubus. LiveNOW from Fox reports Labubu costumes were one of the most searched in 2025. Chicken Jockey from Minecraft, Elphaba from Wicked, The Lorax, Hamilton, and the superhero character Nightwing also made the list.

Hong Kong-born artist Kasing Lung created Labubus. China-based retailer Pop Mart exclusively produced the figures in “blind box” packaging, making them collectible and exclusive. The craze began when K-pop star Lisa from Blackpink was spotted with one in April 2024, followed by other stars, like Rihanna. While the Labubu popularity has somewhat declined, it’s clear that fans are still fully embracing the plush.
