‘Emily in Paris’ Set to Wrap up With Season 6
It’s official; Emily Cooper’s adventure in Paris is coming to an end. Netflix has announced that Season 6 of Emily in Paris, currently in production, will be the show’s last. The iconic romantic comedy has remained a top choice for Netflix users since it premiered back in 2020.
Season 6 will be the last for ‘Emily in Paris’
Netflix has added another iconic original series to the chopping block. The streaming giant just announced that Season 6 will be the farewell season for Emily in Paris. The announcement came via a video featuring Lily Collins uploaded to Netflix’s YouTube channel. In the upload, Collins, who has portrayed Emily Cooper since season 1, told fans, “After six unforgettable years of playing Emily Cooper, I’m here to share that this upcoming sixth season will be our final.” While fans were bummed, Collins is promising something big is to come. The video continued with Collins promising, “Season 6 will bring you everything you love about the show and serve as the final chapter in Emily’s adventure of a lifetime. Our entire cast and crew are pouring our hearts into making this a fantastic farewell season.”
Collins didn’t delve into the reason behind the cancellation or when Netflix made the decision. The announcement comes just a couple of months after the streaming service greenlit the sixth season, and just weeks after the cast returned to set to begin work on the final season. While the announcement is a sad one, it’s actually not all that unexpected. Netflix has a habit of ending shows around the six-season mark. Peaky Blinders moved to a different format after Season 6, and House of Cards ended after six seasons and one major controversy. Grace and Frankie and Orange Is the New Black, the platform’s longest-running original shows thus far, each ended after seven seasons.
All about the series and its farewell season
Emily in Paris, created by Darren Star for Netflix, follows the life of Emily Cooper, a marketing executive who lands her dream job in Paris and takes the leap. The series follows her as she embraces a new life, new friends, and new romances, all while traversing the City of Light.
The series debuted in October 2020, during the height of COVID-19 lockdowns. Lockdowns gave the series an unexpected boost, with 58 million people tuning in for Season 1. Fans fell for Emily, her fashion choices, and the gorgeous European backdrops depicted in the show. Season 6 promises to deliver more of the same, with Collins and the rest of the cast expected to film in Monaco and Greece.
Season 6 does not yet have a premiere date, though it’s likely to be many months away. The cast convened earlier this month to begin filming, and filming schedules suggest the cast will be on set until September. An early 2027 release date feels likely.
