Expert Explains How to Get Kim Kardashian’s ‘Glass Hair’ Look
You don’t need an army of on-call stylists to mimic Kim Kardashian’s enviable locks.
The Kardashians star is known for her ultra-sleek and smooth hair, which she’s lately been styling into a chic pixie cut. But whether it’s short or long, Kim’s tresses always look polished, thanks to her dedication to the glass hair trend.
“Glass hair is Kim’s signature, smooth, reflective, and perfectly polished. It’s that luxury finish everyone’s chasing right now. But you don’t need celebrity stylists to achieve it, the key is hydration, protection, and precision, ” said Danielle Louise, a hair and makeup expert on beauty and wellness booking platform Fresha.
Style expert shares how to get Kim Kardashian’s glossy hair at home
Want to get a red carpet-ready hairstyle of your own? Louise broke down the steps to get glass hair, and it’s not as complicated as you might think.
First, start by double cleansing your hair. Use a clarifying shampoo to strip away residue and pollution, then follow with a hydrating one.
“You need a clean base to get that mirror finish,” Louise explained.
Once a week, use a protein-based or keratin mask to repair and smooth the hair shaft. The glossy look of Kim’s hair “comes from strength as much as shine,” she said.
Next, always make sure you’re using a heat protectant on your hair. Skipping this “non-negotiable” step is often what derails a person’s quest for glass hair, Louise said, as overly “fried” hair will never look glossy.
When straightening your hair, work in small sections using a fine-tooth comb to guide the straighteners through, juts as a stylist at a salon would.
Finally, finish your look with a serum and cool air. Use a light glossing serum or shine mist, then blast with the cold setting on your dryer to seal the cuticle. And to keep your hair looking mirror-like for as long as possible, head to the salon for a gloss treatment.
“Professional gloss or keratin treatments now mimic Kim’s look for up to six weeks,” Louise said.
The result? Hair that looks simple but luxurious. “It’s less about heavy styling and more about condition, shine, and healthy reflection — the kind of hair that looks like it belongs under studio lights,” Louise said.
Kim Kardashian spends more than $1 million on glam beauty treatments every year
While you might be able to pull off a DIY version of Kim’s glass hair, the SKIMS founder is definitely putting her look in the hands of professionals. And that doesn’t come cheap. During a recent appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, host Alex Cooper asked the reality star how much she spends on beauty treatments every year.
“Well … a lot,” Kim replied, before going on to say that she was sometimes able to get other people to pay for time in the hair and makeup chair.
“But if I’m filming my show [The Kardashians], then they pay for it,” she explained. “If I’m working, then they pay for it. So I try to get it all paid for so that I don’t personally have to pay for it.”
“I mean, I don’t have a concept of what, like, certain simple things cost … It could be a million dollars,” Kardashian added, before touching her extensions. “This hair isn’t cheap,” she said.
