From Democrat to Conservative: How ‘RHOBH’ Changed Annemarie Wiley’s Politics
Annemarie Wiley was on RHOBH for one season. During her time on the show, she reportedly clashed politically with her castmates, and she later claimed that the network fired her for her political views. Wiley claimed that she was a lifelong Democrat when she joined the cast of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills; her firing led her to change her views.
Annemarie Wiley said her political views shifted after ‘RHOBH’ fired her
Wiley joined the cast of RHOBH during its 13th season, which began airing in 2023. That same year, her then-husband Marcellus Wiley made comments about transgender athletes competing in women’s sports. Wiley defended her husband’s remarks, which she believes changed people’s opinions about her. While she said people thought she would be the “perfect addition to the cast” at first, the narrative around her became more negative.
“Immediately the narrative around me completely changed,” she told Fox News Digital. “So, it went from all of these glowing reviews to, ‘Oh, she’s transphobic, and she’s a bigot.'”
Wiley claimed that Bravo gave her a bad edit because of her political beliefs. They did not invite her back for another season.
“I was given a terrible edit by Bravo, and I found out after the season was finished when they didn’t invite me back, that that was the reason that I was given that edit, apparently, … because I was a conservative.”
Despite this, Wiley claimed that she considered herself a Democrat before joining the show.
“I grew up in Canada. I’d been a Democrat my entire life. And then, all of a sudden, I, you know, was forced to talk about this,” she said. “I was very apolitical. I was not at all into the political space, and so that experience made me look at what the two parties stood for.”
This made her decide that she was more closely aligned with conservative politics.
“I was like, ‘Well, I stand for truth, common sense, my family and, you know, protection as a society. And I’m like, ‘OK, well, I guess that makes me conservative, so here we go.”
Andy Cohen defended the franchise for having conservative Housewives
Despite what Wiley believes about her firing, Bravo still has a number of conservative Housewives on its payroll. On Threads, one fan asked Andy Cohen why the network had conservative Housewives. They noted that they no longer watched The Real Housewives of Orange County because of this.
“If we didn’t showcase people with different POV’s there would be no show,” Cohen responded. “Also it’s a show about the women and their relationships, not about politics.”
Still, over the years, the franchise has dealt with political topics.
