Future’s Child Support and Paternity Drama Stacks Up
Future has more parenting drama than he knows what to do with. Not only does he have an ongoing child support battle to contend with, but he’s also recently been hit with a paternity suit. On top of that, he’s dealing with a legal name change for one of his children and allegations of being an absentee parent. These are the latest developments in his co-parenting drama.
Future and Brittni Mealy’s child support drama intensifies
Brittni Mealy and Future are still battling over child support. As they work to resolve their issues, both have levied some serious allegations against each other. Future has argued that Mealy is preventing him from seeing their shared child, while Mealy insists that is not the case. The fashion director claims that Future has not seen or called his son in more than a year, and she says that’s entirely his own doing. She is accusing Future of being a voluntarily absent father.
The drama between Mealy and Future became public earlier this year when she asked a judge to hold the rapper in contempt of court. Mealy claimed Future failed to secure a life insurance policy naming their child as the beneficiary, as required under their child support agreement. While he has not been jailed over the alleged failure to comply, tensions are escalating quickly. In the meantime, he has other co-parenting issues to address.
Another ex is seeking to establish paternity
Future’s child support battle with Brittni Mealy isn’t his only co-parenting problem at the moment. In fact, he may be facing yet another co-parenting situation if a paternity test confirms he is the father of a 9-year-old child who has not previously been mentioned in court documents.
TMZ recently obtained court documents showing that a woman named Layla Sanad is seeking a court order to establish paternity of her 9-year-old son. According to the filing, Sanad alleges she was in a relationship with Future at the time their child was conceived. However, paternity has never been formally established. Future claims he has voluntarily supported the child, but Sanad disputes that. She is not only seeking to establish paternity and secure a formal child support arrangement, but she is also requesting retroactive payments. Specifically, she is asking Future to cover the child’s expenses for the past two years.
Future is the father of at least eight children with multiple women. Over the years, he has dealt with custody, child support, and paternity disputes with several co-parents. While his current legal issues involve Mealy and Sanad, his most well-known ex is Ciara. Future and Ciara’s co-parenting relationship came under scrutiny earlier this year when their son, Future, added his stepfather’s surname to his own. Ciara is married to NFL star Russell Wilson. While it remains unclear how these issues will be resolved, it’s likely that more drama lies ahead.
