Country singer Gavin Adcock has some feelings about Beyoncé’s recent success on the country charts.

During a recent concert, the “Sober” singer unloaded some candid thoughts about Queen Bey, who is currently filling stadiums around the U.S. on her “Cowboy Carter” tour.

“You can tell her we’re coming for her f*ckin’ *ss,” Adcock said in a video widely shared online, where he complained that the former Destiny’ Child member was ahead of him on the Apple Music charts.

“That sh*t ain’t country music, and it ain’t never been country music, and it ain’t never gonna be country music,” he continued while holding what appeared to be a bottle of Jack Daniels.

“We’re ’bout to play y’all some Southern f*cking rock,” Adcock added as the crowd cheered. “Y’all hit that sh*t, boys.”

Adcock is currently touring ahead of the August release of his album Own Worst Enemy, including several dates opening for Morgan Wallen.

Adcock doubled down on his comments in a less-profane video he later shared on Instagram

While he said that he appreciated Beyoncé’s earlier music (and her memorable Super Bowl Halftime Show), he thought she should stay in her lane.

“I’m gonna go ahead and clear this up … I really don’t believe that her album should be labeled as country music,” he said. “It doesn’t sound country. It doesn’t feel country.”

“I just don’t think that people who have dedicated their whole lives to this genre and this lifestyle should to have to compete or watch that album just stay at the top just because she’s Beyoncé,” he said.

Beyoncé has said she was inspired to make her 2024 album Cowboy Carter after feeling she had been shunned by the country music community earlier in her career.

“It was born out of an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed…and it was very clear that I wasn’t,” she wrote on Instagram, likely referring to her 2016 performance at the CMA Awards with The Chicks.

“But, because of that experience, I did a deeper dive into the history of Country music and studied our rich musical archive,” she continued. “It feels good to see how music can unite so many people around the world, while also amplifying the voices of some of the people who have dedicated so much of their lives educating on our musical history.”
