Gayle King’s Likely Salary for ‘CBS Mornings’ in 2026, Revealed
Gayle King has been one of American television’s most recognizable morning news figures for over a decade. She has co‑anchored CBS Mornings and its predecessor, CBS This Morning, since 2012. King has built a reputation for her warm energy and engaging interview style, and she seamlessly blends hard news with human‑interest stories. As one of the highest‑paid on‑air personalities in broadcast journalism, fans want to know what she’s paid now that she’s renewed her contract in 2026. Here’s what we know.
How much does Gayle King get paid for hosting ‘CBS Mornings’? She has officially renewed her contract
Gayle King has officially confirmed that she has renewed her contract with CBS News, cementing her place on CBS Mornings. This confirmation came after speculation that King might exit once her current contract ended in May 2026.
“Rumors of my demise were inaccurate and greatly exaggerated,” King said in a statement, according to Variety. “CBS News is my longtime home, and I am committed to our mission. I’m excited about continuing at CBS Mornings. As always, I’m open to new adventures here and ready to go. It took a minute, but we got there. And now that we are here, I am all in.”
So, how much does King earn from CBS Mornings? According to Variety, those knowledgeable on the matter say she earns $14 million annually. Mint reports that her annual salary may be in the range of $12-15 million. It seems likely that she will continue earning this amount in her new contract, but CBS has yet to disclose the specifics.
Unfortunately, the morning show doesn’t seem to be bringing in the same viewership as its competitors. Variety reports that the show brought in 1.78 million viewers for five days in March. NBC’s Today show had 3.2 million viewers for the same timespan. And ABC’s Good Morning America had around 3.1 million.
Previously, Rob Shuter alleged on his Naughty But Nice Substack that sources told him King was taking a 50% pay cut and moving into a part-time schedule. King herself has not addressed her pay. And given her statement regarding her return, it doesn’t look like she’s moving into a lighter schedule. It’s unclear whether CBS will move in a cost-cutting direction, but for now, it doesn’t look like King’s hosting duties are affected.
