George and Amal Clooney Showed ‘Distance’ at Golden Globes, Body Language Expert Says
Hollywood power couple George and Amal Clooney commanded attention at the 83rd Annual Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 11, 2026, making their first appearance at the ceremony together in over a decade. George, nominated for Best Actor – Musical or Comedy for his role in Jay Kelly, walked the red carpet with his wife, Amal, who dazzled in a striking red Balmain gown. The night also featured a chic after-party twist, with Amal turning heads in a bold green Versace mini at Netflix’s celebration. However, according to a celebrity body language expert, George and Amal didn’t appear harmonious at the event. Here’s what she noticed.
George and Amal Clooney had ‘noticeable distance between them’ at the Golden Globes
George and Amal Clooney certainly drew attention at the 2026 Golden Globes. Walking the red carpet hand in hand at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, Amal captivated in a vintage-inspired cherry red Balmain gown with diamond accents. Meanwhile, George looked dapper in a classic black Giorgio Armani tuxedo as he continued his awards season campaign for his performance in Jay Kelly.
Beyond their striking fashion moment, George also had a standout presence during the ceremony itself. He greeted the audience in fluent French onstage. This served as a nod to the couple’s recent acquisition of French citizenship alongside their children.
Celebrity body language expert Inbaal Honigman, via Sportsbook Review, noticed George and Amal’s behavior toward each other at the prestigious ceremony. According to Honigman, the couple appeared to maintain “noticeable” physical distance.
“The Clooneys pose with noticeable distance between them,” Honigman wrote. “They hold hands, even embrace, but their bodies don’t really touch. That physical space on the red carpet could point to distance in everyday life, too. George appears to be chewing, a classic sign of nerves, whereas Amal is less tense, her genuine smile lighting up her face.”
The actor said he and Amal Clooney have ‘never’ argued
George and Amal Clooney’s marriage is entering its 12th year since they wed in Venice in 2014. While some rumor mills have floated speculation about rough patches or potential splits over the years, Amal has publicly downplayed that chatter. She’s emphasized her gratitude for their life together and the support they share in parenting their twins and pursuing demanding careers.
George himself recently reiterated that the couple has never had an argument despite more than a decade together. This claim continues to draw both admiration and skepticism online.
“I had no intention of getting married again, but I fell madly in love with the person who changed that,” he told the Los Angeles Times. “We have kids. I didn’t want to have kids. Everything changed because I met this incredible person.”
George Clooney didn’t look pleased by Nikki Glaser’s roast, according to the expert
At the 83rd Annual Golden Globe Awards, host Nikki Glaser set the tone with a sharp, roast-style opening monologue. She playfully ribbed some of Hollywood’s biggest names, including George Clooney. In one of her standout moments, Glaser paused mid-monologue to address George directly. She joked about her own coffee woes and quipped, “My Nespresso has been coming out kind of watery … is it the pod, or do you think it might be the filter? Could you troubleshoot?” This served as a light-hearted nod to George’s long-running association with the brand.
According to celebrity body language expert Inbaal Honigman, George looked “less than thrilled” about the jab. “The joke itself was innocent, about his Nespresso commercials, but he looked miffed by the attention,” she noticed. “When Nikki targeted him, he smiled, but wife Amal was ready for battle. Chin lowered, eyes raised, prepared for anything. As the joke went on, Clooney’s expression tightened. The smile thinned, and the irritation crept in.”
“In contrast, Steve Martin and Martin Short loved being roasted,” Honigman explained, “as did Leonardo DiCaprio. Faces creased with real laughter, not polite smiles but full, roaring reactions.”
