Glowing Rihanna Shows Off Baby Bump as She Gets Cozy With A$AP Rocky in Cannes
A beaming Rihanna struck a pose with her beau A$AP Rocky on the red carpet in Cannes on Monday. The superstar couple flashed smiles at the crowd – and each other – as photographers snapped away at the pair, who recently announced that they were expecting their third child.
A$AP Rocky (whose real name is Rakim Mayers) cradled Rihanna’s baby bump as they celebrated the premiere of his new movie, Highest 2 Lowest, on May 19. The crime thriller is directed by the legendary Spike Lee and also stars Denzel Washington. Rocky, 36, plays a character named Yung Felon in the movie.
The mom-to-be, 37, donned an ankle-length baby blue custom Alaïa gown for the event, leading some to wonder if she was sending a not-so-subtle clue about the new baby’s gender. But the halter-neck dress featuring cutouts at the waist could have also been a nod to her role as Smurfette in the upcoming movie Smurfs. The “Diamonds” singer also wore matching blue stilettos and styled her hair in a messy updo.
The rainy weather in the south of France didn’t keep the pair from enjoying themselves. They linked arms as Rocky held an umbrella over the “Umbrella” singer as they descended the famous steps leading to the Palais Des Festivals.
Rihanna and Rocky confirmed that baby no. 3 was on the way during their appearance at the Met Gala on May 5. The couple also share sons RZA, 3, and Riot, 1. They haven’t said when their next child is due, but the little one will likely arrive later this year.
With her third child, RiRi continues to embrace an unconventional maternity style.
“It’s been me personally saying, I’m not going to buy maternity clothes. I’m not gonna buy maternity pants, jeans, dresses, or [do] whatever society told me to do before,” she told Bustle in 2022, when she was pregnant with her first child.
The Grammy-winner described her bump=friendly looks as “rebellious.”
“When I saw women dress during their pregnancy [in the past], I’d think that that was the only way,” she said. “So I challenged myself to push it further and really just have fun with [maternity style]. Because there’s nothing more fun than a challenge for me. Like that’s where I get creative. That’s where I’m forced to come up with new ideas and new ways to make it work.”
