Gwen Stefani Called Out By ‘Selling Sunset’ Star for Promoting Anti-Abortion Prayer App: ‘Don’t Speak’
Chrishell Stause is calling out Gwen Stefani after the pop star promoted the controversial prayer app Hallow.
Last week, the No Doubt singer shared a video on her Instagram urging her followers to download the app and sign up for its “Advent Challenge.”
“It’s important this holiday season to spend time in prayer,” Stefani says in the video. “That is what Christmas is all about.”
But Stefani’s partnership with the Catholic meditation app rubbed many people the wrong way, including Stause.
“Gwen-DON’T SPEAK. Please take your own advice on this one,” the Netflix star commented on an Instagram Reel about Stefani’s Hallow partnership.
Why are people criticizing Gwen Stefani’s Hallow app partnership?
In the Reel, makeup artist and A Bit Fruity podcast host Matt Bernstein explained why some people have an issue with Hallow, which costs $9.99 per month or $69.99 per year.
“It’s the most wonderful time of the year, aka when Gwen Stefani shills for the anti-abortion, pay-to-pray app Hallow,” Bernstein says in his edit of the video. The app is funded by Vice President and Catholic convert J.D. Vance and right-wing businessman Peter Thiel, who has suggested it was a mistake to give women the right to vote. Hallow has “a multitude of anti-abortion prayers,” notes Bernstein.
“If you’re looking for God this season, if that’s your thing, you don’t need to give these people $70 to find him. And Gwen Stefani, don’t you have enough goddamn money already?”
On Stefani’s original post, many people echoed Bernstein’s criticisms of Hallow.
“Promoting a pro-life homophobic conservative funded app is gross,” one wrote.
“I love you, Gwen but unfortunately I ain’t no Hallow app girl,” another commented.
Even those who were aligned with Stefani’s faith weren’t impressed by her choice to shill for Hallow.
“Love you being a God and Jesus prayer girl,” one person wrote. “Don’t love you selling prayer/access to God for money. We don’t need an app to access God.”
Stefani isn’t the only star who has teamed up with Hallow. Mark Wahlberg has advertised the app and led the “Fasting Challenge.” Chris Pratt has also urged people to sign up, and Jim Caviezel, Jonathan Roumie, Bear Grylls, and Kevin James.
