Halle Berry’s Ex Defends ‘Motherly’ Remark After Her Clap Back: ‘I Ain’t Got Nothing Else to Say’
Halle Berry and former MLB star David Justice were married in the early 1990s, making headlines as one of Hollywood’s high-profile couples at the time. Their marriage, however, was short-lived, ending in divorce in 1997 amid public scrutiny and tabloid speculation. Over the years, Justice has occasionally spoken out about their relationship, often aiming to set the record straight about lingering rumors that followed their split. Recently, Berry clapped back at his remark about her not being “motherly” enough. This is how Justice responded.
Halle Berry first clapped back after David Justice’s comments regarding her ‘motherly’ skills
Halle Berry and David Justice’s divorce in 1997 was one of the most talked-about celebrity breakups of the decade, in part because of the speculation and rumors. The split was finalized after just four years of marriage. Berry later admitted it was an emotionally difficult period in her life.
In August 2025, Justice spoke about his relationship with Berry on the podcast, All the Smoke.
“We never had any major issues like that. It’s just that I, because I was young and had only honestly been in one real relationship before her, my knowledge, and my understanding, and my wisdom around relationships just wasn’t vast,” he explained. “So, I’m looking at my mom — and I’m a Midwest guy. So, in my mind, I’m thinking a wife at that time should cook, clean, [be] traditional, you know?”
“Then I’m thinking, ‘OK, if we have kids, is this the woman I want to have kids with and build a family with?'” Justice continued. “At that time, as a young guy, she don’t cook, don’t clean, don’t really seem, like, motherly, and then we start having issues.”
Berry clapped back after the “motherly” comment. On Aug. 13, 2025, she posted photos of herself to Instagram showing off her birthday vacation with Van Hunt. “Phew…! cooking, cleaning, and mothering,” she captioned the post.
David Justice responded to Halle Berry’s clap back
Access Hollywood caught up with David Justice at the Harold and Carole Pump Foundation 25th Anniversary Celebrity Dinner in Los Angeles. His wife, Rebecca Villalobos, joined him. The interviewer asked Justice if he wanted to clear up anything about his comments regarding Halle Berry’s “motherly” behavior. Instead of commenting on the situation, Justice steered the conversation toward what he loves about Villalobos.
“Here’s what I got to say — this is my wife for 25 years,” Justice said while gesturing to Villalobos. “Take a look at my wife. She can cook, she know how to clean, she know how to raise a great family. We got three beautiful children and one beautiful grandbaby, alright? So, I ain’t got nothing else to say about nobody else’s lady other than my lady. Period.”
The former MLB character previously tweeted that his famous ex tried to ‘destroy’ his ‘character’
Halle Berry and David Justice haven’t publicly reflected much on their split. However, in November 2015, Justine took to Twitter to defend himself after he was wrongly identified as Berry’s ex, who physically hurt her.
“Reading the latest Halle Berry reports, it wasn’t me who hit Halle causing the ear damage,” Justice tweeted at the time, according to The Mirror. “Halle has never said that I hit her.”
He then tweeted, “[Halle] was mad at me leaving the relationship so she and her Hollywood Team just tried to destroy my character. It had to be my fault, right?”
“Yup … Me, Eric, Gabriel and Olivier were all her ‘Knight in Shining Armor’, until it ends … Then we all become the worst guys in history [sic],” he reportedly tweeted. “Only the guys in the relationship with Halle know the real deal … there will be another of course. He’ll be called ‘The Best’ until it ends [sic].”
