Aniston, best known for her work as an actor, has also become a tireless advocate for dogs who are desperately in need of new homes, and she’s doing it all on Instagram. While the Friends star was a bit resistant to joining social media, she’s gotten remarkably active on it pretty quickly. After joining in 2019 (and gaining 1 million followers in five hours), she turned her Instagram inbox into a spot to check out adoptable pets. Here’s what you need to know about her Instagram initiative.
A ‘Friends’ star is sliding into everyone’s DMs
Jennifer Aniston’s Instagram feed might focus on her career and what she’s been up to lately, but her broadcast channel is almost entirely dedicated to dogs in need of adoption. The updates come fast and furious, with the actor and, presumably, her team, updating the channel multiple times a day on pets who are in dire situations and desperately in need of saving.
The broadcast channel is an interesting medium, but one that is well-suited to Aniston’s goal of getting pets adopted and doing so quickly. Unlike a regular Instagram post, a broadcast channel delivers updates straight to subscribers’ message inboxes. It filters out the endless, scrollable content and makes the message feel personal. It works, too.
Aniston has been credited with helping plenty of pets find homes; she’s also stepped up to create initiatives that help shelters, too. In 2024, she launched the Clydeo Fund. It is a fund housed under the Entertainment Industry Foundation. The initiative supports animal rescue groups, aiming to reduce shelter overcrowding and prevent euthanasia by providing funding for medical care.
Jennifer Aniston has loved rescue dogs for decades
Long before the broadcast channel, Aniston had already built a reputation as one of Hollywood’s most consistent animal-adoption advocates. She has more than 45 million Instagram followers, and PETA has credited her with drawing its attention to homeless-pet adoption on an almost daily basis, going so far as to give her its “I’ll Be There for You” Adoption Advocacy Award.
The cause is close to Aniston’s heart. She has been dog mom to rescues from early on in her career. Her first dog, Norman, was a corgi she fell for while he appeared on an episode of Friends. Over the years, she’s welcomed plenty of rescues into her home. There have been Dolly, a German Shepherd mix, Sophie, a pit bull mix, and Lord Chesterfield, a Labrador she adopted in 2020. Clyde, a schnauzer mix, inspired her children’s book.
So while it might come as a shock to see Aniston’s name pop up in your Instagram Inbox, the reason is not surprising. It doesn’t look like she’ll be slowing her efforts anytime soon, either.
