On Thursday, HBO announced renewals for many of its popular shows, including:

  • House of the Dragon Season 4, which will premiere sometime in 2028. Season 3 of the epic Game of Thrones spinoff will premiere in summer 2026.
  • A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2, which will air in 2027. Season 1 premiers Sunday, January 18 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
  • The Chair Company Season 2. Season 1 is currently airing on HBO and streaming on HBO Max.
  • I Love LA Season 2. Season 1 is currently airing on HBO and streaming on HBO Max.
  • Task Season 2.

HBO previously announced that The Pitt Season 2 would premiere in January 2026. Production is currently underway on Dune: Prophecy Season 2. The White Lotus Season 4 is also in the works, as are The Last of Us Season 3 and True Detective Season 5. The Harry Potter TV series will premiere in 2027.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t an update on the status of another popular HBO show on Thursday. The network has not yet renewed It: Welcome to Derry for season 2. But given that October’s premiere of the horror-drama the third most-watched series debut in HBO history, with 5.7 million people tuning in, a renewal seems likely. There’s also no word on whether The Penguin might return for season 2. The Emmy-winning show was originally intended as a limited series.

HBO also had an encouraging update on Thursday for fans of Poker Face.

Peacock has decided not to renew the Natasha Lyonne mystery series for a third season. But creator Rian Johnson has said he’s interested in continuing the show on another network or streamer. Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, said there’s a chance season 3 – which would see Peter Dinklage take over the Charlie Cale role from Lyonne – could land at HBO.

“It’s funny because we heard the original take, and when I heard that Peacock wasn’t moving forward, we were curious,” he said (via Deadline). “We’ve had conversations, but I don’t know which way it’ll go, but I think Rian is a fantastic filmmaker, and I love the idea of Peter Dinklage, but I have nothing to report on that.”
