HGTV Wipes ‘Rehab Addict’ From Streaming After Nicole Curtis Controversy
Rehab Addict turned Nicole Curtis into one of HGTV’s most recognizable personalities. Her no-nonsense approach to restoring historic homes and her insistence on preserving original craftsmanship rather than gutting properties for quick upgrades made her a staple on the network. Unfortunately, Curtis reportedly used a racial slur while filming the series, resulting in the show’s cancellation. Now, HGTV has wiped Rehab Addict from streaming completely. Here’s what to know.
HGTV wiped ‘Rehab Addict’ from streaming due to Nicole Curtis’ use of a racial slur
HGTV fans adored Rehab Addict. However, they have to say goodbye to the show for good following the controversy surrounding Nicole Curtis. According to Deadline, Curtis used a racial slur that was caught on camera while she filmed the well-known series.
“HGTV was recently made aware of an offensive racial comment made during the filming of Rehab Addict,” the network stated to Deadline. “Not only is language like this hurtful and disappointing to our viewers, partners, and employees — it does not align with the values of HGTV.”
In the wake of this news, HGTV also removed Rehab Addict from streaming platforms, such as HBO Max and Discovery+.
Premiering in 2010, the series followed Curtis as she rescued aging houses primarily in Detroit and Minneapolis. She juggled the financial and personal pressures that came with large-scale renovations. Over the years, the show built a loyal following. This helped cement Curtis’s reputation as a passionate, if sometimes polarizing, figure in the home-improvement world.
Nicole Curtis posted an apology and a screenshot of texts to TMZ following the controversy
In the wake of the Rehab Addict news, Nicole Curtis posted an apology to her followers on her Instagram Stories on Feb. 11, 2026.
“There is more to this, but my family comes first, and I need to be mom right now more than anything else,” she posted. “I will take the time to be as I’ve always been with you, transparent and honest. TMZ called me as I had just turned my phone on after being at school — I said this briefly — but there is more.”
She then posted a text message that she sent to TMZ.
“Regarding HGTV, I’m grateful for the 15-year journey we’ve shared,” the screenshot of the text reads. “It’s been a meaningful chapter, but my focus isn’t on my career. My focus, at this moment, is rightfully on my relationships, and my community — the people who truly know my character and where my heart is. I want to be clear: the word in question is wrong and not part of my vocabulary and never has been, and l apologize to everyone.”
“As discussed, I’m a mom, and I was doing mom things all day and unplugged,” Curtis continued in the text. “I realize my shows were airing, but my family is my priority, and I’m just catching up to all this now.”
She then posted messages from her Instagram followers calling her racist and other hurtful comments.
The HGTV star recently promoted new episodes of the show
Before the cancellation of Rehab Addict, Nicole Curtis took to Instagram to promote new episodes of the HGTV series.
“Straight from Detroit — the new episodes drop Wednesday … was told now or never — so you get them now,” she captioned the post in early February 2026. “And can you do me a huge show of support by sharing this. Sending it to friends, tag a friend, a stranger.”
In another post, she thanked her fans for their relentless support.
“I could say more, but I shall say less,” she wrote. “Thank you for 15 years of amazing, amazing support! Your love took me from a struggling mommy working odd jobs in Craigslist to a real estate mogul whose voice (more than face) gets recognized all over the world.”
