Modern Marvels: WWII is a new three-part series that marks the return of the Modern Marvels franchise to the network. It will premiere in the spring of 2026.

Modern Marvels: WWII (WT) “expands the franchise’s legacy, spotlighting the innovations that defined an era and changed the course of history,” according to The History Channel. “It will explore the greatest machines, most impactful weapons, and groundbreaking innovations of WWII, shining a light on the engineering and technological advances that shaped the course of the conflict and continue to influence our world today.”

“Bringing this iconic series back allows us to celebrate its legacy while exploring one of the most defining events of the 20th century — when necessity and invention changed history forever,” Eli Lehrer, executive vice president and head of programming for The History Channel, said in a statement. “By spotlighting the machines, weapons, and innovations that helped shape the course of WWII, Modern Marvels will remind audiences why this franchise has been synonymous with celebrating human ingenuity.”

“We’re proud to be a part of returning this iconic series to the schedule and for our unscripted entertainment partnership with The History Channel,” said Angelica Rosas McDaniel, executive vice president and general manager of entertainment for Hearst Media Production Group.

The revival of Modern Marvels comes a few months after History announced it was thawing out another one of its classic shows, Ice Road Truckers, after an eight-year hiatus. The 12th season premiered in early October.

Modern Marvels began airing in 1993 on A&E under the title Time Machine. The show, which has explored the history of everything from the Eiffel Tower to processed cheese, moved to History Channel in 1995, where it was rechristened with its current name. Seventeen seasons aired through 2014, when the show went on hiatus. It returned in 2021, with four more seasons airing through 2022. Over nearly three decades, close to 700 episodes aired.

Select episodes of Modern Marvels are streaming on YouTube, Hoopla, The Roku Channel, Disney+, and History Channel.
