Hollywood Rallies Against ICE: Stars Speak Out After Alex Pretti Shooting
Hollywood stars are rallying against ICE following the deaths of Alex Pretti and Renee Good in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse who worked at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis, was shot and killed by federal immigration agents on Jan. 24, 2026. Widespread protests continue to erupt in the city over ICE’s presence, and now, famous actors are rallying behind civilians. Here are the famous folks speaking out, including Zoey Deutch and Natalie Portman.
Hollywood star Zoey Deutch says she’s both ‘proud’ and ‘ashamed’ to be an American following the Alex Pretti shooting
Actress and producer Zoey Deutch didn’t hold back when speaking out against ICE at the Sundance Film Festival following the shooting of Alex Pretti. During an interview with the Variety Studio presented by Audible, Deutch wore an “Ice Out” pin that garnered attention.
“For me, it’s impossible to not be thinking about the state of our country, and what’s going on, and the brutality of ICE,” she said. “For me personally, I feel so proud to be an American, seeing the way communities are coming together during this time. And I feel so ashamed at the same time, obviously, to be an American to see how our government is handling things. But, I just want to stand with the amazing people of Minnesota.”
Natalie Portman, Edward Norton, and Olivia Wilde addressed their concerns over ICE at Sundance
Several other stars spoke out against ICE at the Sundance Film Festival in 2026. Natalie Portman wore “ICE Out” and “Be Good” pins in solidarity with the people of Minnesota. While speaking to Deadline, she called the current actions of ICE “horrific” and “the worst of the worst of humanity.”
“And then we also have the best of the best of humanity for the way people are showing up for each other in community, and Americans coming out to support each other, and protect each other, and fight against injustice,” Portman added.
Edward Norton also spoke about the difficulty of small talk during this time. “These days it’s: ’What are we gonna do about mass Gestapo shooting American citizens?’,” Norton said while at The Hollywood Reporter’s studio. “We are sitting here talking about movies while an illegal army is being mounted against U.S. citizens.”
Olivia Wilde also spoke out against ICE to Variety. “We’re all here getting to celebrate something really beautiful and hopeful in film storytelling. But the world is hurting right now, and this country is hurting. And it’s appalling,” she said.
Mark Ruffalo, Jamie Lee Curtis, Florence Pugh, Pedro Pascal, and others posted anti-ICE rhetoric on social media
Many celebrities have taken to social media to express anti-ICE sentiments. According to USA Today, Mark Ruffalo commented on a video of the shooting of Alex Pretti on Bluesky. He called the shooting “cold-blooded murder in the streets of the USA by an occupying military gang, creating havoc. … We have fought wars in other countries for less than this.”
Pedro Pascal also reposted a clip of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to his Instagram Stories. Mamdani states that ICE “terrorizes our cities” while calling for the abolition of the organization.
Jamie Lee Curtis also took to Instagram to post artwork of Renee Good and Alex Pretti featuring the phrase “Reason for a National Strike.” “THESE WERE AMERICANS! SHOT BY OUR GOVERNMENT,” she captioned the post.

Musicians like Ariana Grande and Olivia Rodrigo are also standing against ICE

Grande reshared a social media post from Mayor Zohran Mamdani following the Alex Pretti shooting, The Blast per Yahoo reports.
“As tens of thousands across America protest the violence that ICE sows with impunity, federal agents shot and killed another person in Minneapolis today,” the post read. “ICE terrorizes our cities. ICE puts us all in danger. Abolish ICE.”
Rodrigo posted her own personal message on her Instagram Stories. She stated how she’s “deeply upset” about the “violent deportations” of her Los Angeles neighbors. “Treating hardworking community members with such little respect, empathy, and due process is awful,” her stories continued.
