The previous episode of House of David, “God of Swords,” revealed more information about the Philistines superior Iron Age weaponry and Goliath’s mythical sword. While the Israelites were able to defeat their enemies in battle thanks to David’s skill as a commander, they realized their rivals have lighter and stronger weapons, putting Saul’s army at a serious disadvantage.

On a strategic level, taking the Philistine forge makes sense, as it could give the Israelites a valuable edge in the ongoing war. But there might more to this mission than just obtaining a military victory. David’s growing popularity has rattled Saul, as his refusal to marry Saul’s daughter Mirab because of his love for Mychal. The king could have ulterior motives in giving David a risky assignment.

But danger is not enough to stop David. In this exclusive clip from “Forged in Fire,” he and his men scope out their target.

“What do you think, commander?” one man asks.

“Half a dozen guards. Likely more within,” David replies.

“A number we can handle,” another soldier says.

But David is concerned. There are “far fewer” men guarding the forge “than a target like this deserves,” he points out.

Still, he moves forward with the attack, ordering his men to ambush the guards, who are caught wholly unawares – or so it seems. What will David and his soldiers find once they enter the Philistine fortress?
