Jake Reiner Won’t Be Answering Questions About Nick Reiner
It has been over eight months since Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner were found stabbed to death in their Brentwood home. The director and photographer’s brutal murders shocked Hollywood and the world, especially after the couple’s younger son was arrested and charged in their murders. Now, the duo’s eldest child, Jake Reiner, is speaking out. There are some questions, however, he is not willing to touch.
Jake Reiner won’t answer questions about his brother
Jake Reiner sat down for his very first interview after his parents’ murders this week. He spoke with ABC News’ Los Angeles affiliate to discuss the shock, grief, and rage he feels over his parents’ passing. He talked about their legacy, what losing them has meant to him and his younger sister, and what they tried to do in life to help his younger brother. What Jake would not discuss was his younger brother directly.
Twice during the interview, Jake declined to answer questions directly about Nick Reiner and his involvement in the killings. When asked if he was surprised that police were looking at his brother Nick as a suspect, Jake said he did not want to answer, responding only, “He’s in jail.” He also declined to say whether his brother’s alleged involvement surprised him.
What Jake did say was that Michele and Rob Reiner never stopped trying to help Nick. He pointed to Nick’s only screenwriting project, “Being Charlie,” as proof. He suggested that the film was a way for his father to try and connect with Nick, who battled addiction and mental health issues from his teen years. The movie was about a young man battling addiction.
While Jake Reiner didn’t want to talk about Nick during the interview, he did confirm that he testified in front of the grand jury that indicted Nick. He has not attended any court hearings and has not spoken to him directly since before the murders.

Rob and Michele Reiner were found stabbed to death at their Brentwood, Los Angeles home on December 14, 2025. Jake recounted the moment he learned what had happened, a call from Romy, who lived in an apartment across the street from their parents and discovered the scene herself. “Romy told me our dad was dead, and then she said, ‘I can’t find mom,'” Jake said, adding that he immediately went into shock.
It took less than 24 hours for the LAPD to track Nick Reiner to a hotel across town. He was arrested that night on murder charges, and later indicted by a grand jury. Since his arrest, he has switched legal teams and has been in a battle to access a trust fund set up for him shortly after his birth. The younger Reiner contends that a portion of that money was to be dispersed to him at age 30, before the murders, and is due to him. Those in charge of the trust argue the California slayer statute applies and blocks his access to those funds.
His trial date is not yet set. He is being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles. He has pleaded not guilty.
