Janelle Brown Opens Up After Heartbreaking ‘Sister Wives’ Episode, Says She Knows She’ll Be ‘Reunited’ With Late Son Garrison
The May 4 installment of Sister Wives addressed the tragic death of Garrison Brown.
After the episode aired, Garrison’s mother Janelle Brown took to Instagram to thank people for “the amazing messages of love and support” she’d received following the broadcast.
Garrison died by suicide on March 4, 2024, at age 25. In the episode, Janelle said her son was in a “bad place” prior to his death and that and had been “struggling” with alcohol, which he had turned to in an effort to “soothe” his anxiety and depression. She and the rest of the family had been trying to get him help she said, but she had no inkling he intended to take his own life that night.
Janelle Brown sees ‘traces of Garrison’ in Flagstaff

Now, more than a year after Garrison’s death, Janelle says she’s learning not to blame herself for her son’s actions.
“It’s taken awhile to accept the fact that, in the end, we did everything we could,” she wrote. “Sometimes the mind convinces someone there’s no hope, even when all the evidence says otherwise.”
Last year, Janelle relocated from Flagstaff, Arizona, where Garrison lived, to North Carolina. She recently returned to the ara and was confronted with painful memories of her child.
“Being in Flagstaff this past week brought a deep awareness of how much I need this new chapter—somewhere different. Everywhere I looked, I could see traces of Garrison,” she wrote.
While her grief is ongoing, Janelle says she is grateful for her other family.
“I’m so thankful for all of my children, and especially for my grandbabies—they are truly life-giving,” she wrote. “And because of my faith, I know I’ll be reunited with Garrison one day. That promise brings me immense comfort.”
‘Sister Wives’ star Kody Brown wishes he had reconciled with Garrison before his death
In the heartbreaking episode of the long-running TLC series, members of the Brown family spoke about the moment they learned that Janelle and Kody’s Brown’s son had died.
Kody opened up about his guilt and grief over not getting a chance to “make things right” with his estranged son before his death.
“I just don’t know what to do with his death because it’s like I’ve got to do something different because I could have had more time with him, and I thought there would be more time,” the former polygamist told Robyn Brown, his only remaining wife.
Meanwhile, Janelle – who shared six children with her ex-husband – recalled her son Gabriel calling to tell he’d discovered his brother’s body.
“He’s like, ‘Mom, he’s gone.’ I mean, ‘What do you mean?’ He said, ‘He’s dead. He killed himself,” Janelle shared.
“I don’t remember the next few minutes,” she said. “But I got in the car and drove.”
Sister Wives airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on TLC.
