Savannah Chrisley nearly broke the internet with a big announcement, but as is typical for the Chrisleys, her news came with an even bigger twist. Just hours after the reality star revealed she is pregnant and engaged, reports surfaced that her fiancé, Jason Galanis, once served time in the same federal prison as her father, Todd Chrisley. And the details only get more interesting.

Savannah’s surprise announcement

On Tuesday, October 27, Savannah, 29, shared a video on Instagram featuring her baby bump, ultrasound photos and sweet moments with her partner. She didn’t name him, referring to him only as “J,” but wrote that she had found her forever in him. “And then God sent me J,” she captioned the post. The secrecy around his identity didn’t last long.

Fans quickly connected the dots and figured out that “J” is Jason Galanis, a 56-year-old businessman with a long and well-documented criminal record. That’s not the big twist, though. According to TMZ, the much older businessman once crossed paths with Todd in a very unexpected place: federal prison.

Who is Jason Galanis?

Jason is a former businessman who was convicted of fraud. In 2020, he was sentenced to 189 months, or nearly 16 years, in federal prison for his role in a stock manipulation scheme and a plot to defraud a Native American tribal entity and investors. That seemed to be the end of his headline-grabbing days, but in 2024, he returned to the spotlight when he testified in the Republican-led impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.

Less than a year later, President Donald Trump commuted his sentence. He was released years ahead of schedule and, apparently, he’s been busy. About a year and a half after his release, he’s engaged to Savannah, and the couple is expecting a baby.

Behind bars at the same time

Jason isn’t building a future with Savannah from scratch. He already has a connection to her family. According to a source who spoke with TMZ, Jason and Savannah’s father, Todd, were both held at the Federal Prison Camp in Pensacola, Florida, and their time there overlapped for several months in 2023. Todd reported to the minimum-security facility in January 2023 to begin a 12-year sentence for bank fraud and tax evasion, while his wife, Julie, served her time at a separate facility.

It’s still unclear whether the two men actually crossed paths inside, and neither has publicly addressed their time there together. Still, their paths kept running parallel after prison. In fact, Todd and Julie’s prison sentences are what led Savannah to Jason. On her Unlocked podcast, Savannah said the two connected in “the political world of D.C.” while she was working to free her parents. According to Savannah, Jason texted her the day after her parents were released. In April, Jason and the Chrisleys were spotted together at Mar-a-Lago’s golf course.
