The Valley fans have seen the worst of Jax Taylor

The Vanderpump Rules alum’s war with his ex, Brittany Cartwright, escalated in the second season of the Bravo reality series. With his marriage crumbling, Jax finally accepted that he had a substance abuse problem and agreed to enter a rehab facility to address his cocaine addiction. But even though he was in treatment, he continued to display alarming behavior.

Brittany says Jax spied on her and failed to pay the mortgage on their home

Brittany has accused her former husband of placing recording devices in their home so he could “spy” on her while he was in treatment, as well as sending her threatening “rage texts” while he was in rehab.

“They take his phone while he’s in therapy and then he gets 15-minute breaks in between,” she explained during an episode of The Valley. “So, he’s doing therapy, getting his phone, rage texting me, going back to therapy, getting his phone, rage texting me, going back to therapy.”

Jax also failed to pay the mortgage on the $2 million Los Angeles area home he once shared with her and their 4-year-old son, Cruz, Brittany claimed.  He allegedly quit paying their shared bills after Brittany moved out in January 2024. She also said he failed to pay his taxes.

“He didn’t want to live there anymore, and I wasn’t there anymore,” she said on The Valley: Aftershow. “So, he just stopped paying.” (In a separate interview, Jax said he later settled the debt.)

Jax’s behavior could have gotten him kicked out of rehab

Although Jax was in rehab to address his addiction and anger issues, he continued to obsessively message Brittany, she said. Eventually, she had to block his number so she could carry on with her life.

While Jax did complete his 30-day stay in the facility, his behavior could have gotten him kicked out early, an addiction expert at Psyclarity, where Jax received treatment, said. Though he could not comment specifically on Jax’s situation, the staff member confirmed that staff would step in if they knew a patient was engaging in threatening behavior.

“We typically do not kick people out of our centers as our goal is to help them with every obstacle, often times when they’re at their lowest and most destructive point,” the insider told The Sun. “That being said, we do have certain lines that cannot be crossed. Physical threats of any kind are not tolerated … If someone was warned they are not to threaten or harass others, even if just via the telephone, and they did not comply, that could be grounds to be kicked out of the facility, yes.”

One issue was that Jax could not be forced to give up his phone while in treatment. In hindsight, he admitted the message he sent to Brittany were “bad” and that he should have handed over his device when he entered the facility.

“I am addicted to my phone. I wanted to know what’s going on,” he said on The Valley: Aftershow.

“Instead of allowing myself to get better and to fix myself and concentrate on why I was supposed to be there, I allowed myself to fixate on what was going on on the outside,” he added. “It drove my rage even more.”
