Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s New British Land Is ‘Prone to Flooding,’ Local Says
Recent reports suggest that Jay-Z and Beyoncé are exploring the possibility of a more permanent home in the UK. Sources allege that the couple was recently spotted inspecting a 58-acre plot of land in the Cotswolds via helicopter during Beyoncé’s London tour dates. The property is rumored to include woodland, a lake, and permission for a rural estate. Unfortunately, it seems the area the celebrity couple might hope to build on is “prone to flooding.” Here’s what a local alleged.
Jay-Z and Beyoncé might’ve bought British land that could easily flood
Jay-Z and Beyoncé have amassed a real estate portfolio spanning several U.S. locations. They have primary residences in Los Angeles, Malibu, and beyond. Lately, reports suggest they’re considering adding a countryside estate in England to their list of homes.
Sources claim the couple is in the final stages of acquiring 58 acres of land near Wigginton in the Cotswolds. The couple allegedly secured planning permission for what’s being called a “spectacular rural estate” with a main house, lake, woodland, and indoor-outdoor living, according to the Daily Mail. Though nothing has been confirmed as a full relocation, insiders say they’ll still maintain their LA base. The couple will use the UK property more as a retreat or alternate home.
Now, insiders suggest Jay-Z and Beyoncé may have bigger issues regarding the land.
“The word now is that it has all been signed, and the money has been deposited in the bank,” a local told the Daily Mail. “That is what we have heard.”
“But I’m not sure if she fully knows what they have let themselves in for, as it’s in a dip and is prone to flooding — we call it the paddy field because the water rises up very quickly,” they continued. “It can be like a swamp when there are several days of rain.”
Despite this, another local told the publication that they look forward to seeing the stars around the area. However, they worry that Jay-Z and Beyoncé may find it “a little boring.”
Jay-Z and Beyoncé already dealt with wildfires affecting their Malibu estate
Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s Malibu estate, a 30,000-square-foot mansion designed by renowned architect Tadao Ando, is located in the Paradise Cove area of Malibu, California. In December 2024, the estate was placed under an evacuation warning due to the Franklin Fire, reports Fox News. The Los Angeles Fire Department issued advisories urging residents to evacuate, particularly those with pets and livestock.
This incident highlights the increasing challenges faced by homeowners in fire-prone areas like Malibu. Escalating wildfire risks now prompt discussions about insurance premiums and property safety measures. This situation may have influenced Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s decision to find a home abroad.
The ultra-famous music couple will have A-list neighbors
The Cotswolds, with its rolling hills, picturesque villages, and proximity to London, has become a magnet for wealthy Americans seeking peace, privacy, and a slower pace of life. One of the most prominent relocations is that of Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi. In late 2024, the couple decided to leave California behind and purchased a stone farmhouse in the Cotswolds for around $18 million, according to the New York Post. Initially intended as a part-time retreat, they later committed more fully to the move.
David and Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss, Elizabeth Hurley, Hugh Grant, and Jeremy Clarkson also call the Cotswolds home.
Back in December 2016, David and Victoria Beckham bought a converted barn estate in Great Tew, near Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire, for about £6,150,000, according to Cotswold Journal. Since then, the property has undergone multiple renovations and expansions. Recent estimates put its value closer to £12 million, thanks to added features like a football pitch with spectator stand, an outdoor pool, large gardens with vegetable patches, a lake, sauna, and some luxury outbuildings.
