Jeff Bezos Wore ‘Wrong’ Waistcoat to His Own Wedding, Menswear Expert Says
Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez made a stunning sartorial statement at their lavish Venice wedding. The bride wore a custom Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda mermaid‑silhouette gown. And Bezos opted for classic refinement with a traditional black Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo complete with a crisp white dress shirt and bow tie. While both the bride and groom wowed on their big day, a menswear expert has some hefty critique for Bezos’ waistcoat. Here’s what the expert noticed.
A menswear expert explained how Jeff Bezos wore the ‘wrong’ type of waistcoat under his tuxedo
Jeff Bezos’s wedding ensemble was the epitome of understated refinement. On June 27, 2025, at the ceremony on San Giorgio Maggiore, he wore a tailored black Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo featuring satin lapels, a crisp white dress shirt, and a classic black bow tie. Completing the look were polished black dress shoes and round, stylish sunglasses that added a subtle modern edge to his traditionally elegant outfit. His signature shaved head and neatly trimmed beard framed a look that gave timeless sartorial discipline.
Unfortunately, menswear expert Derek Guy noticed that Bezos appeared to be wearing the wrong waistcoat beneath his tuxedo.
“Jeff Bezos appears to be wearing the wrong waistcoat for his wedding,” Guy posted to X. “This is a dinner suit (aka tuxedo) and thus requires a formal waistcoat, which is cut lower on the body. He’s wearing a business vest, which is designed for business suits.”
Guy went on to further critique how “wealthy people” typically don’t have a tailor that they use, instead opting for luxury brands that sometimes don’t have a custom clothing department.
“Most wealthy people today don’t use tailors,” he noted. “They shop from luxury brands that may or may not have a custom clothing dept. But such places are rarely benchmade production, and I’ve yet to see one produce truly top-end work. To find a good tailor today, you need more than money. You need a bit of knowledge.”
The expert said Jeff Bezos would’ve looked nice in a ‘cream dinner jacket’
Jeff Bezos clearly opted for a tuxedo for his and Lauren Sánchez’s wedding ceremony. However, menswear expert Derek Guy noted that Bezos could’ve gone in a different direction altogether. Guy suggested that Bezos would’ve looked nice in a cream-colored dinner jacket.
“In the US, morning dress is basically nonexistent,” Guy posted to X. “Very few are even aware of white tie. So for most Americans, there are just two tiers: business clothes (the suit) or black tie (tuxedo). For Bezos, I think a cream dinner jacket in the afternoon would have been better.”
Guy clarified that “morning dress” is men’s formalwear worn before 6 p.m. “Bezos is wearing a dinner suit (aka a tuxedo), which is formalwear worn after 6 p.m,” he continued in another post. “Some people wear tuxedos or dinner suits in the daytime nowadays. Morning dress and dinner suits are two different types of garments.”
Another personal stylist critiqued the groom’s tie and suit size
Liz Teich, a New York-based personal stylist, spoke to DailyMail.com about an error she noticed in Jeff Bezos’ bow tie on his wedding day.
“My biggest criticism of his look is that I wish he didn’t choose a pre-tied bow tie,” Teich noted. “It always looks more elevated to tie your own.”
She also noticed that his suit appeared “small” on him.
“Dress shirt sleeves should hit right past the base of the thumb and show about half of an inch of the cuff out of the jacket sleeve,” she continued. “Judging by length … and how it’s pulling at the button, it may be slightly small on him, though as a stylist, I appreciate a fitted suit over a sloppy, baggy one.”
