Jillian Shriner, the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to two felony charges related to an April 2025 police-involved shooting.
Jillian Shriner pleads not guilty in police shooting incident
Shriner, a best-selling author under the name Jillian Lauren, faces two counts: felony discharge of a firearm with gross negligence and felony assault with a semiautomatic firearm, according to KCAL News. She appeared at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center in Los Angeles on May 13, where she pleaded not guilty.
While the charges are serious, there appears to be good news for Shriner, as one of the more serious charges has been dropped. Initially, she was booked on suspicion of attempted murder following the April 8 incident at her home in Los Angeles’ Eagle Rock neighborhood.
The shooting that led to Shriner’s arrest took place in the backyard of her home after a chaotic series of events. LAPD officers were pursuing a suspect who’d fled from a hit-and-run accident on a nearby freeway. Police officers were in the yard of the home next door when Shriner emerged from her house with a handgun.
In video of the incident released by police (via YouTube), officers tell Shriner to put down her weapon. Shriner appears to raise the gun, and shots ring out. Shriner was struck by police gunfire and retreated into her house. She was later arrested and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Shriner is due back in court on June 18. She is out of jail after posting a $1 million bond.
Shriner has written several books and appeared in a Starz true crime docuseries
In addition to being married to Weezer’s bassist, Shriner is the author of several books. Some Girls: My Life In a Harem recounts her time as a call girl for Jefri Bolkiah, the Prince of Brunei. Another memoir, Everything You Ever Wanted, discusses her relationship with Shriner and their decision to adopt a child from Ethiopia. Behold the Monster: Confronting America’s Most Prolific Serial Killer is her account of her one-on-one conversations with serial killer Samuel Little. She also appeared in the Starz series Confronting a Serial Killer, which focused on her unusual relationship with Little.
In social media updates posted shortly before the shooting, Shriner shared that she had been diagnosed with cancer and recently had a full hysterectomy.
“I’m saying: I’m here. Ask me. I’m okay and healing today,” she wrote on Instagram on March 22. “And look at this beautiful beam of light, this new journal I got, the baby yellow- bellied finches outside my bedroom window. [The] family, who supports me …. That’s my story today.”
Shriner has not commented since her arrest. Her husband – whose band played Coachella just days after the incident at their home – told Access Hollywood she was “doing alright” following the shooting.
