John Travolta ‘Dressed for the Job’ at Cannes Film Festival
John Travolta turned heads at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. The actor popped up, alongside his look-alike daughter, Ella Bleu Travolta, at the festivities. Travolta’s appearance at the event was not a surprise. He is, after all, a Hollywood icon. His glow-up and style choices, however, did turn a few heads.
The Look That Stopped Cannes in Its Tracks
John Travolta had fans doing a double-take as he unveiled a noticeably different look on the red carpet in France just days ago. Travolta stepped out wearing a black suit with a matching black vest and crisp white dress shirt. He elevated the look with a white beret, wire-rim glasses, and a beard that was dyed a deep black. He also looked noticeably younger than he had in the past.
His look leaned heavily into an artsy style. The look and his tight, bright skin had fans running to social media to offer opinions. Some people loved the look. Others questioned exactly what motivated the Saturday Night Fever legend to show up to a film festival in costume. As it turns out, John Travolta sort of was in costume for the Cannes Film Festival.
John Travolta explained the beret
Fans questioned if John Travolta was in costume at Cannes. As it turns out, the look was entirely intentional and sort of a costume. John was dressing for his new job. The iconic actor told CNN that after so many years attending red carpets as an actor, he wanted to “play the part of a director.” He was so adamant about the decision that he did his own research. Inspiration struck when he happened upon photos of “old-school directors” wearing berets.
He said that as soon as he saw the look, he knew he was going to go for it. There is a reason Travolta opted for the look at this particular event. John Travolta made his directorial debut this year.
His directorial debut, Propeller One-Way Night Coach, an adaptation of his 1997 children’s book, was screened at the festival. The flick, set in the golden age of aviation, will begin streaming on Apple TV on May 29. Travolta wrote, co-produced, and directed the project.
