Josh Duggar’s Federal Prison Release Date Moved to 2033
Joshua Duggar is busy trying to appeal his child pornography sentence, but the more he argues to be released early, the more his release date is pushed back, it seems. Since landing at FCI Seagoville, Josh has found himself in trouble a couple of times, and it appears he might be causing trouble again. The convict’s release date has been pushed back to 2033. He was previously slated for release in late 2032. So, what could have happened?
Josh Duggar’s release date has changed again
The federal prison system is filled with notable inmates. Several reality TV stars, for example, are actively serving time. While some are being released early, like Jen Shah, others are having their sentences effectively increased. Josh Duggar is one of those famous faces whose release date has been delayed.
Josh Duggar’s current release date is now set for February 2, 2033. The change marks the third time the convict’s release date has been pushed back. When he was sentenced in 2022, he was given a release date in August 2032. After he was allegedly caught with contraband, his release date was moved to October 2032. In June 2025, his release date was pushed back another two months to December. Now, things have moved further back to 2033. Since his first days at FCI Seagoville, Josh has had just under six months added to his sentence.
What could cause a change to a prisoner’s release date?
While the Federal Bureau of Prisons does not comment on individual inmates or infractions that do not lead to additional charges, general information is available about how each federal institution is run. Infractions are categorized by levels, with level 400 being the most minor and level 100 being the most serious.
According to the Bureau of Prisons, minor infractions generally result in the loss of privileges or days or weeks of good-time credit. Minor infractions include possession of small amounts of contraband, being late for work, or being in the wrong area.
More serious-level infractions, like sexual acts, fighting, and stealing, can lead to time in solitary confinement, the loss of months of good-time credits, and, in some cases, a move to a higher-security-level institution.
While we can’t know for certain what Josh Duggar might have done to lose credits, it appears—based on the amount of time tacked onto his anticipated release date—to be of a moderately serious nature. Rumors suggest he had previously been caught with significant contraband, resulting in a trip to the special housing unit and time added to his sentence. He remains at FCI Seagoville. He was transferred to the federal prison in May 2022.
