Kandi Burruss shocked fans when she announced her divorce from Todd Tucker. It marked the end of their 14-year relationship, which began on the set of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, where Todd worked as a line producer. The reality TV star went quiet for several days after the divorce statement. Finally, she’s surfaced due to a professional obligation, addressing the split on Amazon Live.

Kandi Burruss gave fans ‘the tea’ about her divorce from Todd Tucker on Amazon Live

Kandi Burruss took to Amazon’s livestream shopping platform to share her favorite gifts this holiday season. The occasion was likely planned in advance. This made the timing quite awkward for the 49-year-old due to her impending divorce. Amazon Live allows influencers to host video streams to promote products sold on Amazon. During live demos, followers can ask questions in real time. Naturally, Kandi faced a slew of comments from fans seeking divorce details.

Some of the remarks on Kandi’s Amazon Live involved viewers asking if Todd cheated, what Mama Joyce thought, and whether Kandi would go to counseling. The Xscape singer, aware that she couldn’t ignore all of the questions, started her livestream by saying, “My life has been going crazy lately. I know I’m all in the blogs right now.” She acknowledged that everyone had questions and asked that they “keep it positive in the chat.”

Kandi seemed uncomfortable as she continued, “So, um, yeah, for those who don’t really be on the internet … I filed for divorce on Friday. And, uh, yeah. Right now it’s a pretty crazy time.” She added, “I don’t want to be sad right now” before sharing some of the products she recommends, including Aquaphor and a Brumate tumbler.

One of the biggest takeaways from Kandi’s livestream was that she hoped to grieve in private. “I’m gonna be very honest with you,” she told viewers. “I am up and down. Obviously, going through a divorce is definitely not the easiest thing. Sometimes you’re cool … Sometimes you have your moments of sadness.”

She explained that she couldn’t keep sad moments to herself when she filmed RHOA, so viewers saw her cry. “But in real life, in my everyday life, I don’t really like for those moments to be shared with the world,” Kandi communicated. “But I am sharing with my Amazon family today … To be clear, yes, I filed [for divorce] Friday, but this is something that has been brewing for a while.”

What does Mama Joyce think about Kandi’s divorce from Todd?

A viewer asked if it hurt that Kandi’s mom warned her about Todd. Another asked whether Mama Joyce would appear on Kandi’s podcast, Speak On It, which made the Grammy Award-winning songwriter laugh uncomfortably. “My mom does not need to be on Speak On It right now,” she stated. “My mama has been very peaceful and happy. She might speak too much [if she came on the podcast].” Fans may assume that Mama Joyce is happy about the breakup. Kandi’s mother was strongly against her relationship with Todd, becoming a much-discussed RHOA storyline.

Mama Joyce’s objections included believing he was only interested in Kandi’s money and that Todd and his family were being opportunistic. The matriarch even clashed with Todd on-camera and tried to convince Kandi to call off the wedding. Despite the tension, Kandi stood by him.

As Kandi shared her favorite holiday gifts, she promoted her starring role as Angelique in & Juliet. Beginning December 11, the Bedroom Kandi founder will portray the nurse, a comedic character who doubles as a maternal figure for Juliet in the reimagined version of Romeo & Juliet. During the livestream, Kandi said she’s staying in NYC throughout the musical’s run and that the role “could not have come at a better time.”

“I knew that it would push me to stay in my zone and not fall apart,” she explained. “I’m one of those people; if I focus on a project, it helps me go through things. I hope you guys come to see me on Broadway.” Kandi said she will be “giving it her all” and focusing on her kids outside of & Juliet. “They’re doing well, by the way,” she added.

Kandi and Todd share their son, Ace (b. 2016), and daughter, Blaze (b. 2019). Kandi has her older daughter, Riley, from a previous relationship. Todd also has a daughter, Kaela, from a previous relationship. Together, they portrayed a modern blended family on Bravo.

Kandi told Amazon viewers that she and Todd will continue coparenting together “no matter what.” She continued, “We have beautiful children together, so we are trying to make this transition as smooth as it can possibly be for our kids. That is our main concern. So we are keeping it very friendly.”
