Kandi Burruss Weighs In on Drew Sidora and Shamea Morton’s Music Careers
Housewives have used their reality TV fame to promote toaster ovens, Pinot Grigio, sugar cookies, and more. One of the most popular side hustles of Bravo housewives, however, involves music. From Erika Girardi’s alter ego to Luann de Lesseps’ cabaret show, we’ve seen just about everything. Recently, Kandi Burruss shared her real opinion of her former The Real Housewives of Atlanta castmates’ vocal talent.
What Kandi Burruss really thinks about Drew Sidora and Shamea Morton’s music
Kandi Burruss is arguably the most successful singer/songwriter to star on The Real Housewives of Atlanta. She won a Grammy for writing TLC’s “No Scrubs” among other accolades. Although she’s stepped away from filming the Bravo reality show after 14 seasons, Burruss isn’t afraid to share her opinion on the drama, especially concerning the cast members’ musical abilities.
She recently appeared on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, where she fielded questions from the audience. As reported on @BravoWWHL’s Instagram, a viewer asked the Xscape singer, “Since you’ve been so supportive of Shamea’s music on social media, what’s your response to Drew shading her vocal ability after her showcase?”
Burruss responded, “Oh, I didn’t see that part,” before pausing. Then she explained, “Well, both of those girls can really sing. So I mean, come on now, Drew, you can’t be shading someone’s vocal ability. But you know what they do on the show — they all shade each other. I felt like, honestly, in my true opinion, I felt like both of them put out strong music. You know? If I’m just judging it based on the music –“
Cohen interjected, “Drew’s album is good.”
“Yeah, both of them have really great songs,” Burruss stated. “And I just kinda felt like — obviously, the cattiness of the show — they’re being catty with each other. But you can’t deny that they’re both talented.” The “Just Kickin’ It” singer’s genuine compliments to both ladies surprised some fans. Housewives tend to be quite critical of one another, but Burruss, who knows what she’s talking about concerning music, seemed sincere.
Drew Sidora’s music career
Drew Sidora joined The Real Housewives of Atlanta in 2020 for season 13 and has been a mainstay ever since. Before her reality TV career, the multihyphenate pursued acting and music.
Sidora embarked on her musical journey with a record deal from J Records in January 2006. That year, she contributed two songs, “For The Love” and “Til The Dawn,” to the Step Up soundtrack. In 2007, she appeared on the Three Can Play That Game soundtrack with “Three Can Play.” After signing with Slip-N-Slide Records in 2008, she released the dance-infused single “Juke It” in 2010.
In addition to her success via movie soundtracks, Sidora became a music video star. She appeared in Trey Songz’s “Last Time” as his love interest, danced in Sean Paul’s “Give It Up to Me” video, and featured in Yung Berg’s “Sexy Lady” video.
Sidora released the single “Already Know” in 2022. Then, in 2025, she released her debut full-length album, I Did It to Me, under Dennis McKinley’s label MusicXchange. The titular single, “I Did It to Me,” captures personal accountability and growth, themes she confronts on RHOA. Sidora also contributed harmonies and a verse to “Affirmations Pt. II,” a remix of castmate Candiace Bassett’s song from her album Deep Space (Deluxe Edition).
Sidora’s music has always run parallel to her acting career. She had high-profile roles in That’s So Raven, Step Up, and CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story, among others.
Shamea Morton’s music career
Shamea Morton has graced our screens as a guest and “friend of” throughout 11 seasons of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. The former NBA cheerleader might be better known as a reality TV personality now, but Morton has dabbled in music since she was a young girl. By age four, she led her church choir and began dancing.
Later, the Georgia native joined several singing groups, collaborating with the likes of Shamari (formerly of Blaque) and Keri Hilson in the group Pretty Tony, which was signed to Grammy-winning producer Anthony Dent. Morton was also a member of Co-Ed, a quartet that achieved Billboard chart presence with “Roll Wit Me.”
In March 2025, Morton officially released her first solo single, “Neva Had,” showcasing smooth, old-school R&B vibes. She describes the song as a blend of independence, confidence, and feminine flair. A standout moment came when Morton performed “Neva Had” live at the Atlanta Hawks Play-In Game halftime show. The full-circle moment saw her go from supporting the team as a cheerleader to performing as an artist on the same stage. Reflecting on that moment, Morton radiated pride, calling it a “blessing.”
Morton and Sidora can thank their RHOA platform for some of their musical success. The rest is talent, as even Burruss admits.
