Kanye “Ye” West redefined celebrity self-expression through his smile. The rapper unveiled a bold new look in January 2024, replacing his natural teeth with a custom set of permanent titanium prosthetics. Designed in collaboration with Beverly Hills dentist Dr. Thomas Connelly, the $850,000 dental makeover features silver fangs inspired by the iconic James Bond villain Jaws. Here’s what an Australian dentist said about the alleged cost of the new teeth and why Ye shouldn’t have paid that much.

Kanye “Ye” West doesn’t shy away from bold fashion — and in January 2024, he shocked his fans with titanium teeth. At the time, Ye’s representative clarified that the rapper’s new chompers were permanent.

“They are, as the name suggests, fixed and permanent. This goes way beyond veneers or grills,” a source told Today. “And his particular implant is quite unlike anything that has been done before.”

Unfortunately, Ye’s teeth could have severe consequences. Leading cosmetic dentist Dr. Sam Koh told Daily Mail Australia that Ye will have difficulty cleaning the teeth, thus possibly leading to disease and infection.

“Although it has been reported that the dentist has given him custom equipment to help clean his teeth, such a bulky one-piece appliance is going to be hard to clean,” Koh noted, according to Dental Boutique. “Microscopically, there will be a lot of food, bacteria, and debris getting underneath the titanium, which can then cause a lot of bad breath, sensitivity, tooth decay, and gum issues such as disease and infection if the titanium is there long term.”

To make matters worse, Koh believes Ye’s new teeth were not worth $850,000. “Practically and clinically, the titanium, labor from both the dentist and the lab making the ‘teeth’ wouldn’t cost anywhere near this much,” he said. “It’s really hard to estimate something unique like this, but if someone were to do something like this in Australia, it would only perhaps cost maybe at most $100,000 AUD or less!”

The rapper allegedly has up to 12 dentists in rotation at one time

Kanye “Ye” West is particular when it comes to his dental health. A source told Page Six that the rapper is “weird” about his teeth and has up to 12 dentists in rotation at once. The insider also noted that Ye has had many grills installed and removed over time.

“He brought one dentist to another dentist office to show him how to work on his teeth,” the acquaintance claimed.

Ye’s jaw was shattered after an accident in 2002. According to another source, his obsession with his teeth may have started after the accident. Ye recorded “Through The Wire” with his jaw wired shut.

North West is following in her father’s footsteps

North West, Kanye “Ye” West and Kim Kardashian’s eldest daughter, might develop a similar affinity to fancy dental work as her famous father. In January 2024, North debuted her own set of diamond grills on TikTok. A photo shared by Page Six shows North parting her lips with her fingers to show off her sparkling teeth. Four of her teeth were completely covered with diamonds, while a few others had a diamond outline.

Kardashian once admitted that North thinks highly of Ye’s way of life, complicating her relationship with her daughter.

“North will go to her dad’s, and she [will say], ‘Dad’s is the best. He has it all figured out. He doesn’t have a nanny or a chef or security. He lives in an apartment,'” Kardashian said during an episode of The Kardashians. And she will start crying, ‘Why don’t you have an apartment? I can’t believe we don’t have an apartment.’”

Will North get titanium prosthetic teeth in the future? Only time will tell.
