Kanye “Ye” West and wife Bianca Censori are back in the news — and this time, it’s over West’s dentist. The couple is suing Beverly Hills dentist Dr. Thomas Connelly, accusing him of medical malpractice and exploitation. West and Censori allege that Connelly introduced West to nitrous oxide, leading to addiction and neurological damage, and charged him over $50,000 per month for the gas. Given this development, we’re looking at West’s 2025 Super Bowl LIX ad in a different light.

In a move that left audiences bewildered, Kanye “Ye” West aired a Super Bowl ad to promote Yeezy. And he filmed it in a dentist’s chair. The 30-second commercial, which aired in select local markets including Los Angeles, featured West reclining in a dentist’s chair. He wore a blue hoodie and sunglasses and flashed his diamond-encrusted teeth. He humorously admitted, “I spent all the money for the commercial on these new teeth, so once again, I had to shoot it on the iPhone,” before directing viewers to visit Yeezy.com.

The ad’s minimalist approach and unconventional setting sparked widespread discussion online, with reactions ranging from confusion to amusement. The reaction later turned to outrage when West started promoting swastika T-shirts on his website. Since the Super Bowl ad, West has doubled down on his antisemitic sentiments and Nazi glorification.

It’s unclear why West chose to film the ad from a dentist’s chair. But West has historically used his teeth to make a statement. He had custom titanium, palladium, and platinum grills made to cover his natural teeth. The grills are fixed and permanent.

The rapper’s Super Bowl ad might have a deeper meaning now that he’s suing his dentist

Kanye “Ye” West and Bianca Censori are prepping to sue West’s dentist, Dr. Thomas Connelly, for alleged malpractice. According to The Hollywood Reporter, West received dental services from Connelly since 2024. Connelly allegedly gave West nitrous oxide and encouraged the rapper to administer it himself. The dentist allegedly ignored “clear adverse neurological and behavioral signs” exhibited by West, according to the formal notice of intent to initiate litigation from Golden Law.

“Evidence shows that during the time Ye was under your care, you engaged in numerous inappropriate and dangerous practices that were far outside the bounds of any legitimate medical purpose or standard of care,” the letter reads. “These actions were not isolated incidents but rather part of a pattern of improper conduct by you from 2024 through 2025 while Ye was your patient. Ms. Censori, as Ye’s spouse, was a witness to and impacted by many of these events (some of which took place at their shared residence).”

It’s unclear if West and Censori planned to sue Connelly back when West released his Super Bowl ad in the dentist’s chair. However, he could’ve had the idea on the brain. The ad certainly had viewers talking — and wondering — why West chose a simplistic ad as a celebrity with so much money. Many viewers who witnessed it liked its unpolished aesthetic, as it felt very true to West. However, others were confused. Either way, it stirred the pot and caused outrage later.

Kanye ‘Ye’ West’s former chief of staff previously claimed West’s former dentist supplied him with nitrous oxide

Kanye “Ye” West’s former chief of staff, Milo Yiannopoulos, previously submitted an affidavit to the California Dental Board to complain about Thomas P. Connelly. According to TMZ, the affidavit notes that Connelly supplied West with nitrous oxide for recreational use and was paid $50,000 per month. Yiannopoulos also alleged that West talked nonstop about nitrous during this period.

Connelly called the 2024 allegations “not only factually incorrect but also intentionally misleading.” The dentist’s representatives said the former chief of staff was attempting to damage Connelly’s reputation out of malice.
