Keith Urban’s Net Worth Could Soar After His Divorce from Nicole Kidman Thanks to Their Prenup
Much of the entertainment world is looking on suspiciously at Keith Urban as he seems to flirt with a 25-year-old guitarist just days after his divorce from Nicole Kidman became public. While some fans are questioning whether the 57-year-old music artist is experiencing a midlife crisis, Urban appears to be handling the developments in his life with ease. Regardless of how inappropriate it seems, He actually has reason to feel pretty optimistic. A prenuptial agreement means he’ll walk away from his 19-year marriage with a pretty big payout, and all he had to do was stay sober.
A sobriety clause might net Keith Urban a good bit of cash in his divorce
Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban married in 2006, when her star power far outshone his own. Her net worth did, too. The couple’s relationship didn’t get off to a particularly easy start, but a prenuptial agreement seemed to keep Urban on the right path. A special clause ensured the country crooner would receive a set amount of money for his sobriety. That sobriety is something he achieved with the help of Kidman.
According to Radar Online, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have a prenuptial agreement that protects their individual assets, but there is also an alleged “cocaine clause.” The clause states that Kidman would need to pay Urban $600,000 for each year of their marriage, but only if he maintained his sobriety. Apparently, Urban has done exactly that since checking into a rehab just months after marrying Kidman. She staged the intervention that drove him into rehab to begin with.
If the clause is accurate, Urban could leave the marriage with an extra $11 million. While Urban has made plenty of money of his own in the years since marrying Kidman, no one would turn their nose up at $11 million. While that’s likely painful for Kidman to part with, it’s probably a small price to pay for a much cleaner split than the one she experienced while trying to extricate herself from her marriage to Tom Cruise.
Another clause in the prenup speaks of her previous messy divorce
Nicole Kidman is, unfortunately, not a stranger to divorce. Her previously split from Tom Cruise in 2001 appeared pretty clean from the outside, but was emotionally charged and led to a sort of estrangement from her two children with Cruise. This time around, Kidman is making sure that she doesn’t lose out on precious parenting time.
The Standard reports that the already submitted parenting plan gives Kidman primary physical custody of the children. The plan stipulates that both girls spend 306 days with Kidman and 59 days with their father. The plan, however, does state that they must make all major decisions together. Keith Urban doesn’t seem to be opposed to the divorce stipulation.
When she split from Cruise, Isabella and Conner Cruise were just 8 and 6 years old. Cruise was granted primary custody of the siblings. Their involvement in the Church of Scientology has kept them at arm’s length from Kidman since. Cruise maintains a relationship with both children, who are now adults. Kidman insists she loves her children even if the connection is distant. Still, interviews reveal that there is a great deal of emotion tied to that estrangement. It is unclear if they’ve ever met their siblings.
Interestingly, Cruise is believed to be estranged from Suri Cruise, his daughter with Katie Holmes. In their divorce, Holmes retained primary custody of a then school-aged Suri. Suri is now 19 and was raised almost entirely in New York City. Holmes and Suri do not identify as Scientologists.
