Kelly Clarkson has revealed that in her current home, she converted a large, seldom-used spare room into a “Christmas room.” The Manhattan house, which she moved into after leaving Los Angeles in 2023, according to Architectural Digest, offered more space than she needed for normal day-to-day living, so when she wondered what to do with the extra room, Christmas decorations seemed like the perfect answer.

The first time around, she says, decorating it for Christmas felt like a big production. On The Kelly Clarkson Show, where she shared this story, she explained: “I decorated it the first year for Christmas, and then I was like, ‘That was a lot of work. We’ll shut the doors until [next] Christmas.'”

But then — surprise — she didn’t shut the doors. Instead, she left everything up. What started as a seasonal decoration turned into a permanent holiday room.

Why Kelly Clarkson keeps her decorations up year-round

For Clarkson, leaving the Christmas décor up all year isn’t just a bit of whimsy; it’s practical and meaningful. As she explained, the effort involved in unpacking, decorating, and then packing away so many decorations each year is considerable. By leaving it up, she spares herself and her children the repeat work.

But beyond convenience, the Christmas room became a place of joy and connection. Clarkson says she and her children often go in there. They’ll play Christmas music, dance, and just enjoy being together, even outside of the holiday season.

In her own words from her talk show: “We have a whole room, and we literally will go in there and dance throughout the day and just put Christmas songs on. We love it.”

Christmas with Kelly Clarkson is a family affair

The Christmas room isn’t just Kelly’s personal indulgence; it’s very much a family affair. Her two children, River Rose and Remington “Remy” Alexander, are active participants in the tradition. The three of them dance, play music, and enjoy the festive vibe together all year long.

Clarkson has admitted that, when she’s singing karaoke-style in those moments, her kids will sometimes tell her to “shut up” and joke that they want their turn to perform. For them, the Christmas room is a safe and happy space — a constant slice of holiday magic that doesn’t depend on a calendar.

Kelly Clarkson’s unapologetically festive “Christmas room” is more than a quirky celebrity flex; it’s a heartfelt reminder that joy doesn’t need a season to thrive. What began as a one-time decorating effort turned into a year-round celebration of music, laughter, and family bonding.

For Clarkson and her kids, it’s about creating moments that bring them together, whether it’s December or the middle of July. By keeping the holiday spirit alive every day, Clarkson proves that sometimes the best traditions are the ones we choose to keep long after the lights should’ve come down
