Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos’ Kids Felt ‘Slighted’ Over Christmas Tradition
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos may be TV royalty, but at home, they’re simply Mom and Dad to their three kids: Michael, 28, Lola, 24, and Joaquin, 22. The Consuelos-Ripa clan has built a reputation for celebrating the holidays with traditions that are equal parts sentimental and chaotic, from matching pajamas and marathon cooking sessions to long-standing rituals their kids love to tease them about. In December 2025, Ripa and Consuelos admitted that their kids felt “slighted” over this changing Christmas tradition. Here’s what went down.
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos said their 3 kids feel ‘slighted’ by their 2025 Christmas card
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos didn’t hold back when discussing the issues they faced with the family Christmas card in 2025. According to the famous couple, their three kids felt “slighted” because Ripa and Consuelos didn’t include them on the card. However, given the context of the conversation, it appears their kids typically take too long to approve the card, thus causing tension within the family.
“They complained, right?” Ripa said in a clip posted by People. “They complained that they’re not in the Christmas card — they feel very ….”
“Slighted!” Consuelos chimed in.
“Slighted, and ‘how could you,’ and I said, I’m tired of waiting around for you to approve a picture,” Ripa added. “So, we took a picture on the set with the Dallas Comboys cheerleaders. And Mark is in the middle. And we’re all in our special outfits. Mark just has a look on his face that is like, he’s so excited and happy. He’s the happiest I’ve ever seen him in a Christmas card.”
Consuelos noted that in a past year of their kids “not being cooperative” with the Christmas photo, he used a photo of his Riverdale family for the holiday card.
“His TV family — that was another good Christmas card,” Ripa continued. “It’s a great one.”
Kelly Ripa shared her holiday hack for making her Christmas easier
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos had an easy Thanksgiving in 2025, as they traveled to London to spend the holiday with their daughter, Lola. Instead of cooking a huge meal, they had dinner at the hotel. While speaking to People in a backstage chat at Live With Kelly and Mark, Ripa said she has a new holiday goal — and that’s to “cater as much as possible.”
“My new outlook on life is to do the least amount of work possible when I’m not working,” she added.
As for Christmas, Ripa said at the time that she and Consuelos still planned on “cooking and hosting,” but they didn’t want to go overboard.
“A London Christmas would be nice at some point,” Consuelos added, and Ripa agreed.
“Eventually,” she said. “We still have responsibilities at home.”
The couple decided to give each other the gift of ‘freedom’ in 2025
Kelly Ripa revealed that she hadn’t started her Christmas shopping in early December 2025 — a far cry from years past when she was typically finished by this time. In response to this, Mark Consuelos told Ripa to take a year off from giving him a holiday present.
“This year, we’ll give each other the gift of freedom of not buying each other something,” Ripa told Consuelos, according to a TikTok posted by Decider. Consuelos loved the idea.
“Does that sound good?” Consuelos offered.
“That’s actually two less gifts,” Ripa noted, “because I don’t have to get your gift, and I don’t have to get the gift that you give me.” To that, the audience laughed.
“That’s right!” Consuelos added.
