‘The Girls Next Door’: Hugh Hefner’s Reality Show Originally Had an Entirely Different Premise

Reality TV fans remember Kendra Wilkinson on The Girls Next Door as one of Hugh Hefner’s girlfriends. Now, her life looks a lot different at 40. In March 2026, she posted a selfie to Instagram that addressed aging and what she’s up to now.

“I used to use a light filter on myself but now I’m just embracing myself as it is,” she captioned the post. “I’ve seen many people comment saying I’ve aged ‘poorly’ and that is ok. I’m ok with aging ‘poorly.’ For some reason I’m happier than I’ve ever been lately even with a little weight gain and wrinkles and I’m not going to tie my happiness again into the negative energy. I am a balanced, single, positive, fun woman who loves life and I hope that I can manage this feeling forever now after working hard to get here to this place.”

Wilkinson added that she was “very young” when she started on television. And she lived a “crazy, chaotic 20 years of impressing others.” However, now she’s focusing on herself and her family, “even with less money and way less fame.”

She ended the caption by stating what she’s up to now.

“I’m now a realtor and a mom of a 16 and an 11-year-old,” she wrote. “Watching them grow has been my ultimate happiness over everything else. I’m so beyond grateful for today!”

Kendra Wilkinson works in luxury real estate

Kendra Wilkinson has spent the past several years reinventing herself professionally through a career in luxury real estate. She began studying for her real estate license during the COVID-19 pandemic and passed the California real estate exam in June 2020. Shortly afterward, she joined the luxury brokerage The Agency, founded by Mauricio Umansky, and began learning the business in the Los Angeles market.

Wilkinson’s transition into the industry was documented on the reality series Kendra Sells Hollywood, which premiered in 2021. The show highlighted the steep learning curve she faced while selling high-end homes in areas such as Malibu, Beverly Hills, and Calabasas. It also captured the pressure of starting over professionally after years of being known primarily for her role on reality TV. The series ran for two seasons through 2023.

As her real estate career progressed, Wilkinson continued working with major brokerages and later joined companies including Douglas Elliman and Carswell & Associates. She briefly suggested in 2024 that she might step away from the industry amid mental health struggles, according to People. However, she later clarified that she remained involved in real estate and was still handling property deals.

She said she’s had to ‘face’ her mental health ‘demons’

Kendra Wilkinson has been candid regarding her mental health in the past. In 2024, she told People that she was “dying of depression.”

“I was hitting the end of my life, and I went into psychosis,” she continued. “I felt like I wasn’t strong enough to live anymore. … It’s not easy to look back at my 20s. I’ve had to face my demons.”

Wilkinson noted that Playboy “messed” her “whole life” up, resulting in hospitalizations for her mental health. On one visit, she was placed on the antipsychotic medication Abilify. She explained how she felt shame following the split from her husband while also trying to stay present for her two kids. Wilkinson had also cut ties with close friends, and her relationship with her mother and family members remained tenuous. She was dealt another difficult life moment when Kendra Sells Hollywood was no longer renewed.

Finally, she asked her ex-husband, former NFL player Hank Baskett, for help.

“To accept help that day and for Hank to drive me to the hospital was a huge day in both of our lives,” she said. “It was a big day for my family and kids. I didn’t realize how bad I was suffering or what people were seeing of me until I got there. I had to really look in the mirror and be like, ‘I need help.'”

Today, she uses her platform to discuss her mental health experiences and recovery.
