In May 2025, Kid Cudi testified in hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs’ federal case. Cudi, real name Scott Mescudi, testified that Combs orchestrated a break-in at his home in 2011, allegedly in retaliation for Cudi’s brief romantic involvement with singer Cassie Ventura. He recounted that Combs forced his assistant to assist in the intrusion, during which his dog was found locked in a bathroom and Christmas gifts were tampered with. Now, we’re looking back at Cudi’s behavior in late 2024, in which he temporarily left social media. Did he know he was set to testify? Here’s what we suspect.

Did Kid Cudi’s social media pause in December 2024 have to do with Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs?

Before Sean “Diddy” Combs’ trial began in May 2025, Homeland Security raided Sean “Diddy” Combs’ residences in Los Angeles and Miami on March 25, 2024. The raids, which involved the seizure of electronic devices and other evidence, intensified scrutiny of the music mogul. In addition to federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges, Combs faces civil lawsuits alleging rape, trafficking, and abuse.

Rumors regarding Combs and Kid Cudi’s feud go way back. Through the years, many heard that Combs allegedly blew up Cudi’s car due to his romantic association with Casandra “Cassie” Ventura — Combs’ ex. Cudi spoke on this during his May 2025 testimony in Combs’ trial.

Those keeping up with Combs’ federal trial knew Cudi’s name was mentioned. Several months prior, in December 2024, Cudi announced a social media break.

“Hello world!” he posted to Instagram, according to Revolt. “I’ma be posting a lot less now; being disconnected is what I need to do for my mental, but I want you to know that I love you. And even though you won’t hear from me, my love for you is always there.”

“I think it’s time to head back to the shadows,” he continued. “Thank you for all the love and support these past years.”

So, did Cudi’s social media break coincide with a subpoena for Combs’ trial? The rapper didn’t say so. However, the timing might make sense. Combs was arrested in September 2024, and Cudi’s social media hiatus happened just three months later. He could’ve received a subpoena requesting testimony, which certainly could affect his mental health.

Kid Cudi is back on social media and thanking his fans for their support through the trial

Kid Cudi returned to X despite stating he might stay away from the platform for good. On May 22, 2025, he thanked his fans for their support and admitted he was in a “stressful situation” with Sean “Diddy” Combs’ trial.

“Hey guys, so I just want to say, man, I’ve been seeing all the love and support,” Cudi said in a clip. “I just want to say thank you so much, man. People be hitting me up the past week, just checking in, and even today. And it just really means a lot to me, man. … This is a stressful situation. I’m glad it’s behind me. I love ya’ll, man.”

The rapper remains outspoken regarding his mental health

Kid Cudi has been open with his fans regarding his mental health. He lost his father at age 11, leading to feelings of isolation and difficulty expressing his emotions. As he entered adulthood and gained fame, these unresolved issues manifested in anxiety, depression, and substance use. In 2016, overwhelmed by suicidal thoughts, Cudi made the courageous decision to check himself into a rehabilitation facility. Two weeks into his stay, he suffered a stroke, adding physical challenges to his mental health battle.

Despite these setbacks, Cudi emerged from rehab with a renewed commitment to his well-being, adopting healthier work habits and setting boundaries to maintain his mental health.

“I actually can say, at 38, that I love myself,” he told Esquire in 2022. “And I couldn’t have said that six years ago. I can say that with confidence now and truly believe it, and it shows.”
