Kim Kardashian Mocked for Backyard ‘Graduation’: Did She Really Go to Law School?
Kim Kardashian has officially graduated from her law program after six years of dedicated study, marking a significant milestone in her unconventional legal journey. Unlike traditional law school paths, Kim pursued the California Law Office Study Program, an apprenticeship-based route that allowed her to study under experienced attorneys. Beginning her legal studies in 2019, she remained committed, dedicating over 5,000 hours to her legal education. However, some Kardashian-Jenner fans are mocking her accomplishments and her backyard “graduation.” Here’s why.
Did Kim Kardashian really graduate from law school? Here’s what to know about her program
Kim Kardashian just completed a major milestone in her journey to becoming a lawyer. In May 2025 (and after six years of her pursuits), she graduated from California’s Law Office Study Program (LOSP). This nontraditional path to legal licensure allows individuals to study law through apprenticeship rather than attending a formal law school. The program requires participants to complete four years of study in a law office or judge’s chambers, dedicating at least 18 hours per week under the supervision of an experienced attorney.
Throughout her six-year journey, Kim committed over 5,000 hours to her legal education, balancing her studies with her business ventures and family life. In 2021, she passed the “baby bar” exam after three previous attempts. And she later completed the Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (MPRE).
Now, with her graduation, Kim is eligible to sit for the California bar exam, bringing her closer to her goal of becoming a licensed attorney.
So, did Kim technically graduate from law school? No — at least not in the traditional sense. California’s LOSP is not an American Bar Association-accredited school. Additionally, Kim didn’t take classroom-based courses, as she opted for a one-on-one apprenticeship. The California program also doesn’t award Kim a degree for her studies.
Kardashian-Jenner fans mocked the reality star’s backyard graduation ceremony
Kim Kardashian is proud of her achievements after completing her law program. She celebrated with a surprise backyard graduation ceremony attended by family, friends, and mentors, including CNN’s Van Jones and criminal justice advocate Jessica Jackson. Kim’s kids, Saint West, 9, Chicago West, 7, and Psalm West, 6, also attended.
“All of you guys have been on this journey with me,” Kim said in her speech, as shared on her Instagram Stories. “It did start with Van and I. Well, it started with the Twitter video that I saw that popped up.”
A fan on Reddit explained Kim’s nontraditional law practice route. “In most states, you need an undergrad degree and a JD (law school) to sit for the bar exam,” they commented. “When you pass the bar exam, you get a license to practice law. In CA (and a few other states), you have the option of taking an apprenticeship, which allows you to work under an attorney/judge in lieu of law school. This was Kim’s route.”
However, some fans on Reddit roasted Kim for her makeshift graduation, as it speaks to the fact that she didn’t go to traditional law school.
“Nothing like creating your own graduation in your backyard,” a fan on Reddit wrote.
“Man, I really wish Kim was more careful with her words,” another fan wrote. “It’s been six years of us explaining that she’s not attending law school, and people are still confused.”
“I mean, finishing an apprenticeship is worth celebrating, but it’s always frustrating when people misuse terms like this seemingly on purpose,” another fan added.
Khloé Kardashian reiterated that her sister graduated from ‘law school’
Khloé Kardashian isn’t helping the incorrect narrative that Kim Kardashian graduated from “law school.” The Kardashian-Jenner sister took to her Instagram Stories to congratulate Kim on her accomplishments.
“I am so proud of Kim,” Khloé posted. “I just left her celebration lunch for graduating law school. I mean, I cannot believe — this is years and years in the making. I’m so proud of her. This was just such a cool accomplishment, and I’m so proud. This was really inspiring and motivating. Such a beautiful day. I’m so happy for her.
