Kim Kardashian Has Some Regrets About Taylor Swift Feud
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s feud with Taylor Swift exploded ten years ago. While Swift and Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West, were at odds after he interrupted her speech at the VMAs in 2009, things got worse in 2016. Ye referenced Swift on his song “Famous,” and the fallout has lasted for years. While Kardashian reportedly does not regret her involvement in the feud. She would handle things differently today, though.
Kim Kardashian reportedly has regrets about her feud with Taylor Swift
Months after Swift criticized Ye for his line about her on “Famous,” Kardashian claimed that the other singer had signed off on the line. Swift’s team pushed back on this, leading Kardashian to release snippets of a phone call that appeared to vindicate her and her husband. Ten years after the feud, Kardashian reportedly does not think about the feud all that often.
“Kim really hasn’t given much thought or energy to this situation in years because so much has happened in her life since then,” a source told Us Weekly.
They added that while Kardashian “doesn’t necessarily regret inserting herself,” she understands that she may have made things worse.
“Jumping in just made it turn into something much bigger,” the source said. “At the time, she really felt like she was sticking up for her husband and their family, but it spiraled way more than she expected.”
If this were to happen today, the source said Kardashian would have acted differently.
“Kim has grown a lot since then, and it’s not in her nature to be so reactionary anymore,” the source said. “Back then, her instinct was to jump in and say something, but now she’s a lot more careful about what she gives energy to. She’s learned no one really wins in a public feud like that. It just keeps going and going, and everyone gets dragged.”
Taylor Swift said the Kim Kardashian and Kanye West feud devastated her
Many people sided with Kardashian and Ye following the release of the footage. Swift referred to the subsequent backlash as “a career death.”
“Make no mistake — my career was taken away from me,” she told Time in 2023.
She accused Kardashian of only releasing clips that aligned with her narrative. Swift said that the fallout devastated her.
“You have a fully manufactured frame job, in an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar,” she said. “That took me down psychologically to a place I’ve never been before. I moved to a foreign country. I didn’t leave a rental house for a year.”
She said it took her a long time to recover from this.
“I was afraid to get on phone calls,” Swift said, adding, “I pushed away most people in my life because I didn’t trust anyone anymore. I went down really, really hard.”
Where do they stand today?
In recent years, Kardashian has publicly listened to Swift’s music.
“I think I’ve said it,” Kardashian said on her sister Khloé’s podcast, Khloé in Wonder Land. “I have some of her older songs in my playlist,” she said. “I’ve always thought she’s like a super talented, great artist.”
Swift appeared to reference Kardashian on her 2024 song “thanK you aIMee.”
