Kim Kardashian Won’t Be Sitting for the Bar Exam in 2026
It looks like Kim Kardashian will be spending most of her free time this year focusing on her budding relationship with Lewis Hamilton rather than her legal aspirations. While Kardashian has been documenting her unconventional path to practicing law in California, she’s hit a bit of a roadblock. A bar exam failure last year has clearly left a bad taste in her mouth. The mother of four didn’t sit for the exam in February when it was administered, and she isn’t signed up for the upcoming exam session in July, either. If she still wishes to become a lawyer, she will need to wait until at least 2027.
Kim Kardashian started her journey toward law school in 2019
Kim Kardashian started her legal journey in an unconventional way, with her first major hurdle being the baby bar exam. The baby bar, otherwise known as the First-Year Law Students’ Examination, proved to be far more difficult than she anticipated. Kim failed the exam three times before she finally passed it, and the very public nature of that struggle seemed to wear on the businesswoman.
While Kim Kardashian failed the baby bar repeatedly, that isn’t actually all that uncommon. The test, which consists of 100 multiple-choice questions and essays across three subjects, has a pass rate that hovers around 20%. While Kardashian pointed to the low pass rate as proof of the test’s difficulty, some experts argue that while challenging, the low pass rate may speak more to the background of those taking it than to the test itself. The baby bar must be passed by students attending unaccredited law schools, or those who are opting for the apprenticeship route, like Kim.
Her dreams appear to be on hold until 2027 at least
Kim Kardashian took a quiet step back from her legal journey after the baby bar, with critics wondering whether the failure was simply too much for her to handle. While Kim did take a break from her goal, she eventually returned. In 2024, she passed the MPRE and made significant progress in her apprenticeship program, completing her studies before sitting for the California Bar Exam in July 2025. While Kardashian was hopeful she would pass, the results were not what she hoped for. Kim Kardashian was not among the 54% of students who passed the July 2025 exam.
In November, Kim shared the results in an Instagram story. According to People, the mogul wrote: “Six years into this law journey, and I’m still all in until I pass the bar. No shortcuts, no giving up — just more studying and even more determination.” While Kim remained upbeat in her Instagram updates, it seems like she might be feeling a bit less confident about her abilities. She opted not to retake the test in February 2026, although she was eligible, and she isn’t among the hopefuls taking the test in July either. It looks like Kim has put her lawyer aspirations on hold until at least 2027. The earliest she could take the exam is February 2027, though she hasn’t indicated she plans to sit for that exam yet.
