Kourtney Kardashian’s doctors warned she might not be able to breastfeed

Kourtney went on to say that she was committed to breastfeeding her fourth child, whom she shares with husband Travis Barker. However, before she gave birth her medical team warned her it might not be possible.

“I told my baby we would breastfeed when he was in my tummy every day after doctors told me he probably wouldn’t be able to breastfeed,” she shared.

“I prayed about it and I believed it. Blessed and grateful for this beautiful life and experience together with my baby,” she added.

A number of Kourtney’s followers were excited to see her promote breastfeeding older children.

Kourtney Kardashian Thanks People for Calling Out Her Parenting Misstep

This isn’t the first time Kourtney has opened up about breastfeeding. In a 2024 episode of her family’s Hulu reality series, she said she wanted to breastfeed Rocky, then eight months, for “at least a year.” That’s about how long her breastfed her son Reign, now nine, adding that she only stopped when he “started biting me.”

Kourtney also shared a series of slides highlighting the benefits of breastfeeding, including its role in boosting the immune system. But she is relatively unusual in continuing to breastfeed her children past infancy. According to the CDC, just 36% of babies in the U.S. are still breastfeeding at 12 months.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommend exclusively breastfeeding for the first six months and “supports continued breastfeeding … as long as mutually desired by mother and child for 2 years or beyond.”

Kourtney gets criticized for another parenting decision

While Kourtney wanted her recent post to normalize breastfeeding, it was a different parenting choice that drew the attention of some commenters. Several people wondered by Rocky was not wearing a life vest while on the boat.

“Please use a life vest on your child,” one wrote.

Soon after, Kourtney responded to the critics in a post on her Instagram Story. She thanked them for their concern and letting them know she’d bought a life vest that fits.

“Good looking out,” the mom of four continued, adding that she “honestly didn’t think about some of the dangers.”

“Thank you for making me aware and hopefully this helps make other mommies aware of the dangers of certain types of boating without a life vest,” she wrote.
