Lainey Wilson’s Engagement Ring ‘Completely Rejects’ Traditional Rules
Country singer Lainey Wilson’s massive engagement ring features multiple diamonds and is reportedly close to seven carats. Wilson and NFL player Devlin “Duck” Hodges recently tied the knot. A jewelry expert shared how Wilson is breaking traditional bridal rules with her ring.
Lainey Wilson’s engagement ring has a very modern feel
Wilson’s engagement ring features a cluster of diamonds. Justin Daughters, Managing Director at Berganza, said this rejects the traditional rules for rings.
“Historically, engagement rings have centred around one dominant stone,” he explained. “What makes Lainey Wilson’s ring feel so modern is that it completely rejects that structure.”
He said that the way the ring looks on the hand is different from the way a more traditional ring does.
“Rather than a single focal diamond, the design behaves more like a bouquet of carats,” he explained. “The diamond cluster together almost compositionally, creating movement, texture, and volume across the hand rather than directing the eye towards one centrepiece.”
The way that the diamonds on Wilson’s ring are arranged makes it look both organic and high fashion.
“What makes the piece compelling is that it doesn’t look overly engineered. It feels organic, luminous, and slightly spontaneous, almost like the diamonds were gathered naturally together,” Daughters explained. “That’s what gives it that couture-like quality rather than feeling like a standard bridal ring.”
He said Lainey Wilson’s engagement ring represents a growing trend
Daughters believes that more and more people will get engagement rings that look like Wilson’s. They provide more of an opportunity to express oneself.
“We’re seeing engagement rings move away from minimal, solitary perfection and towards pieces that feel more expressive, sculptural, and personality-driven,” he said. “Cluster rings, toi et moi settings, and asymmetrical arrangements are becoming increasingly popular because they feel less formal and more individual.”
He said the ring manages to feel wearable despite its considerable size. This is because of the variety of shapes it features.
“There’s obviously a huge visual impact here, but the varying diamond cuts stop the ring from feeling overly rigid. The marquise, oval, and pear silhouettes create fluidity, almost like petals arranged within a floral composition. That softer structure is important because oversized engagement rings can sometimes feel heavy. This still feels romantic and wearable despite the scale.”
He thinks that rings like Wilson’s represent a move away from trends that have dominated bridal styling in recent years.
“Quiet luxury dominated bridal jewellery for years, but now we’re seeing much more appetite for statement rings that feel celebratory and visually confident,” he said. “ People want engagement rings that feel reflective of personality rather than tradition alone.”
How did she meet Devlin Hodges?
Wilson and Hodges started dating in 2021. Mutual friends set them up.
“We went to this old place called Silverados, and it had free beer and wine from 5 to 10 p.m.,” she told People. “I was like, ‘This boy likes to ball on a budget too. This is gonna work out.’”
Wilson said Hodges is a good partner for her because he supports her career.
“Duck is the kind of dude who high-fives me on the way in the door and on the way out and says, ‘Go get it,’” she said. “He knows how important this dream is to me.”
They tied the knot on May 10.
