Maggie Q Reacts to ‘Ballard’ Season 2 Renewal: ‘Very Grateful’
Renée Ballard is back on the case.
On Monday, Prime Video announced that it has renewed Ballard for season 2. The Bosch spinoff, which premiered in July 2025, stars Maggie Q as an LAPD detective who leads the department’s cold case unit.
Maggie Q celebrates ‘Ballard’ renewal
Maggie Q celebrated the renewal news on social media, thanking viewers for supporting the series. The police procedural also stars Courtney Taylor, Michael Mosley, Rebecca Field, Victoria Moroles, Amy Hill, and John Carroll Lynch.
“All I can say is thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who watched and supported our show,” she wrote on Instagram. “Thank you for allowing us to continue to tell the stories of those who serve, those who fight. I can speak for the whole cast when I say we are so very very grateful. LET’S. GOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!”
Field, who plays Colleen Hatteras, a volunteer researcher in the cold case unit, also reacted to the news.
“So grateful and beyond excited to announce that @ballardonprime is getting a Season 2!” she wrote on Instagram. “Thank you to @amazonprime for the renewal and to all of the@people that watched and made us a success season 1! My heart is so full and I can’t wait to dive back in to Colleen and the team in the basement.”
Ballard is based on a series of books by Michael Connelly, who is also a producer on the show. In a statement, he said that Maggie Q was instrumental to the new show’s success.
“It’s a great privilege to have my characters brought to life on screen season after season, and it’s thanks to the fans continuing to tune in that we’re able to do so,” he said. “I’m especially grateful to Maggie Q for embodying Renée so perfectly, honoring the character as we take her into the next stage of her journey.”
What’s next in ‘Ballard’ Season 2?

So far, there’s no word on which of Connelly’s Ballard novels might be adapted for season 2. Season 1 ended with Ballard being arrested for the murder of dirty cop Robert Olivas, her former partner, whom she’d accused of sexual assault. All signs point to a set up, with Ballard being framed by someone for Olivas’ killing. The first part of season 2 will likely deal with the fallout from her arrest and the investigation into who is really responsible for the crime.
Notably, the Ballard Season 2 announcement did not include any mention of original Bosch star Titus Welliver. Welliver appeared in a few episodes of Ballard, helping Ballard with one of her cases. But it’s not clear if he’ll be back next season, especially as the actor is set to star in the new MGM+ series The Westies.
Ballard Season 1 is now streaming on Prime Video.
