Award-winning singer-songwriter Mariah Carey shares her life with 14-year-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan Cannon. Born on April 30, 2011, to Carey and her ex-husband, Nick Cannon, the twins are now entering their teenage years. Despite their parents’ divorce in 2016, Carey and Nick maintain a supportive co-parenting relationship for the sake of their children. And she recently answered whether she would want her kids to follow in her footsteps and work in the entertainment industry.

Does Mariah Carey want her kids to work in the entertainment industry? Here’s how she answered

Mariah Carey often shares glimpses of her family life on social media, showcasing her close bond with her kids, twins Monroe and Moroccan. In December 2024, she posted heartwarming photos of the twins celebrating Christmas together, highlighting their shared traditions and love for the holidays. The twins have also shown interest in the entertainment industry, with Carey noting their talent and intelligence. While she supports their potential aspirations, she acknowledges the challenges of the industry and encourages them to pursue their passions thoughtfully.

In September 2025, Carey sat down with Nessa from Hot 97 and discussed her new music, life, and what’s to come. And the topic of Carey’s twins came up. Carey noted that her kids are doing really well, and she commented on her own parenting style.

“I’ve decided that what I’m not gonna do is be a very bossy mom who forces them to do stuff,” the singer said.

Carey then noted that her son, whom she calls “Rocky,” is a “good actor” who’s tried out for roles. And when it comes to her kids entering the entertainment industry, Carey doesn’t take any issue.

“What other industry?” she said. “I mean, they’re all horrible.”

Mariah Carey previously commented on her daughter, Monroe, joining the entertainment industry

This certainly isn’t the first time that Mariah Carey has been questioned on whether her twins want to follow in her footsteps. In 2024, Carey dished to E! News about Monroe and Moroccan’s aspirations. Carey admitted that she could see her daughter wanting to become a singer or an actor one day, though she doesn’t push her children to follow any specific path forward.

“I think she’s leaning towards singing and acting as well,” Carey told the publication. “There’s a lot of advice to be given. And she’ll just be like, ‘I know!'”

The singer noted that she’s “super protective” of her kids. “But I also try to let them be their own people,” she continued.

The singer recently dodged a question about co-parenting with Nick Cannon

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon first met in 2005, when Nick was a young entertainer and Carey was an established pop superstar. Their relationship quickly captured public attention due to the couple’s age difference, as Carey was 36 and Nick just 25, and the stark contrast between Carey’s superstar status and Nick’s rising career.

The couple married in a private ceremony in the Bahamas on April 30, 2008, a date that would later become the birthday of their twins. Carey and Nick welcomed Monroe and Moroccan in 2011. Their marriage faced challenges over time, ultimately leading to their separation in 2014. The divorce was finalized in 2016, with both parties emphasizing a commitment to co-parenting their children.

In September 2025, Carey dodged a question about co-parenting with Nick while speaking on CBS Mornings.

“I kind of feel like it’s best if I don’t talk about him,” Carey said, “because he can just be in his own world. No offense to him.”
