Mariah Carey Left Speechless Over Nick Cannon’s $10 Million Insurance Policy on His Balls
Mariah Carey famously doesn’t keep up with her ex-husband Nick Cannon‘s comings and goings. So it was unsurprising that she hadn’t heard about Cannon’s manhood-related insurance policy. On Watch What Happens Live, the “Type Dangerous” singer commented on the announcement while promoting her 16th studio album, Here for It All.
Mariah Carey didn’t know her ex-husband insured his manhood for $10 million
In 2024, Cannon disclosed that he had taken out a $10 million insurance policy on his balls, divided at $5 million per testicle. The TV host framed the move as protecting what he called his “most valuable assets” in light of his role as a father to 12 children. The idea began partly as a joke, but Cannon moved forward with it in hopes of any payout from a loss going toward his offspring. The insurance was done in a marketing collaboration with men’s personal care brand Dr. Squatch.
Mariah Carey has never been one to keep tabs on her ex-husband’s every move, so it wasn’t exactly shocking that she hadn’t heard about Cannon’s latest insurance stunt. During an appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, Carey played Cohen’s “Plead the Fifth” game, where she could answer a tough question or pass.
Cohen asked Carey about her reaction to the $10 million arrangement. She asked, “When did this happen?” before expressing a huge sigh. Carey paused before saying, “Lord, help me.” Cohen pushed, asking, “Are his balls worth $10 million to you?” The mother of two laughed before stating, “I’ve got to go to the next question.”
Previously, Carey shared that she stays out of Cannon’s personal business, especially regarding his 10 children with other women. She told Gayle King on CBS Mornings, “I kind of feel like it’s best if I don’t talk about him because he can just be in his own world. No offense to him.”
Cannon has since expressed regret about not raising his insurance policy to $12 million. This would bring the total payout to $1 million per child, including the twins he shares with Carey.
Mariah Carey also addressed her infamous feuds with Eminem and Jennifer Lopez
During “Plead the Fifth,” Cohen also asked Carey about her feud with Eminem. “This summer, a music producer claimed the reason why you and Eminem started beefing was because he approached you about playing his mom in Eight Mile?” Cohen said. “Is there any truth to that?”
Carey explained, “From what I heard, there is truth to that. But I don’t think he actually — well, who knows who approached who.” Cohen pushed, “Did that ignite the beef?” “Um, no,” Carey stammered. “I mean, maybe. It depends what he’s thinking. I really don’t care. Like, whatever he’s said, then I’m that. Fine. Not really. But that’s a rap lyric.”
She also addressed her alleged feud with Jennifer Lopez.
Cohen mentioned, “Can you believe how much ‘I don’t know her’ has become part of the lexicon?” The audience laughed as Carey responded, “I mean, the thing is, I was being honest when I said it. So I don’t know how it became so big. Honesty isn’t really something that becomes big most of the time.”
Cohen was alluding to Carey’s comment during a 2001 interview on a German TV show. The “Fantasy” singer was asked about Jennifer Lopez as a contemporary. Carey replied, “I don’t know her.” Later, she clarified that she’s “forgetful” and doesn’t remember meeting Lopez.
Although this may not have been intended as shade, Carey not remembering Lopez, who was already a superstar, made the “I’m Real” singer seem insignificant at best. J.Lo has said they’ve met “many times” and seemed surprised Carey doesn’t remember. Regardless, “I don’t know her” became instantly meme-worthy — shorthand for being shady and aloof with someone you don’t like.
Cohen concluded the topic, saying, “To clarify, you still do not know her, right?” Carey responded, “How can I suddently know her, you know? [Laughs]”
