Meet Bryant Thomas, TikToker Turned ‘American Idol’ Contestant Who Got Engaged During the Show’s Season 24 Premiere
Bryant Thomas may have just delivered the most memorable audition in American Idol history.
On Monday, the secretive TikTok singing sensation took the stage during his tryout for season 24. Not only did he wow the judges, but he also revealed his face to the public for the first time. Then, he capped off an already impressive night by proposing to his girlfriend.
Who is ‘American Idol’ Season 24 contestant Bryant Thomas?
Thomas gained viral fame on TikTok as the ‘Secret Shower Singer.’ He belted out songs by Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, and Chris Stapleton, but he never showed his face in the videos. Instead, his supportive girlfriend Alyona Palhof reacted on camera while getting ready in their bathroom.
Thomas, 26, is from Mobile, Alabama, and grew up singing in church. He dreamed of hitting it big as a singer, but he’s only recently mustered the courage to step into the limelight.
“I’ve been dreaming about this moment since I was a kid,” he wrote on Instagram ahead of his American Idol debut. “Singing into hairbrushes. Performing for bedroom walls. Believing in something before I had any proof it would ever believe in me back. Just a boy from Mobile AL Somewhere along the way, those little dreams turned into real life. Tomorrow , I finally get to step out from those four shower walls … to the stage. This is my identity reveal. And this is the moment I’ve been chasing my whole life.”
Secret Shower Singer wows with ‘American Idol’ audition and heartfelt proposal
On January 26, Thomas stepped onto the American Idol stage for his audition. He sang Phil Collins’ “Against All Odds,” initially concealing himself behind a pillar.
After his powerhouse performance earned praise from judges Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan, Thomas revealed his face for the first time on camera.
“Your voice is outrageous. It really is, even over there, behind a pillar. You can feel just so much emotion and life in your voice,” Underwood said.
“I think we’ve got ourselves a hit record here,” Richie said. “You’ve got star power.”
Unsurprisingly, Thomas got his golden ticket and will advance in the competition. But what happened next might have been even more special. Thomas got down on one knee and proceeded to pop the question to Palhof.
“I told you when we started this whole journey that you were the one for me. To be honest, whether I got a golden ticket or not, I was gonna do this,” he said.
Palhof quickly gave her boyfriend another “yes.”
Thomas couldn’t be more thrilled with how the night went.
“I walked in hoping for one yes…and walked out with four,” he wrote on Instagram. “Three from the judges. One from her.”
“Golden ticket secured. Face revealed,” he added. “Hollywood Week, here I come.”
American Idol airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. Episodes stream the next day on Hulu.
