Meghan Markle Admits She’s Made ‘Mistakes’: ‘There’s No Such Thing as Perfect’
Meghan Markle has faced plenty of criticism since marrying Prince Harry in 2018. Whether it’s her conflicts with members of her husband’s family (particularly her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton), clashes with the notoriously vicious British press, or snarky comments about her efforts to rebrand herself as a lifestyle influencer in her post-royal life, it often seems like she can do nothing right.
Meghan Markle says she’s giving herself ‘grace’
The Duchess of Sussex is well aware that she’s facing extra scrutiny as she navigates life in the public eye. And she knows she hasn’t always made the right moves in the past, she confessed in a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar. But those mistakes are a chance to be better in the future, she says.
“You learn not to do it again,” the With Love, Meghan star said when asked what’s she’s learned from past missteps.
“If it all goes swimmingly, you don’t learn from it,” she continued. “If you don’t learn anything, you’re not going to grow … I’m a mom with kids at that age where they are constantly learning something new. I watch them face things that feel completely insurmountable every day. But you can remember and say, ‘I know it seems really hard right now, but trust me, that’s going to come so easily soon.’ I can give myself the same grace as a founder. There’s no such thing as perfect. I, too, get to make mistakes.”
Meghan also pointed out that being too focused on perfection can be limiting.
“There’s also not a lot of fun in trying to be perfect,” she said. “So why try to do that if you want to have fun?”
Critics take aim at ‘With Love, Meghan’ holiday special
Meghan’s latest comments come as she faces a fresh round of criticism, this time related to the just-released teaser for the With Love, Meghan holiday special, which premieres December 3 on Netflix.
“So much to show yet so little of actual authentic family Christmas,” one person commented on Netflix’s Instagram post promoting the special. Several other people echoed that remark, wondering why Meghan’s estranged father and other relatives didn’t appear in trailer. (The clip does feature a brief appearance from Prince Harry, as well as a look at Archie and Lilibet’s letter to Santa, which has been printed on a mug.)
“Too curated…too overly glitzy…every minute clocked to look like perfection….It just overall seems very fake,” another person complained.
“No no no no no. Why ruin Christmas?” wrote one annoyed commenter.
But despite some negative feedback, others were looking forward to spending the holidays with Meghan.
“Christmas elegance inspired by Meghan is a whole vibe,” one wrote.
“Loving everything I see in this trailer,” another commented. “…Meghan is full on my person, she understands how to make things beautiful and surrounds herself with beautiful things.”
