Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Are Producing a Netflix Adaptation of This Fan-Favorite Romance Novel
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are helping to bring a popular romance novel to the big screen.
Meghan Markle, Prince Harry producing a movie based on Jasmine Guillory’s ‘The Wedding Date’
Netflix is planning a film adaptation of Jasmine Guillory’s bestselling book The Wedding Date, Deadline reports. Girls Trip screenwriter Tracy Oliver will pen the script, with Meghan and Harry set to produce through their company Archewell Productions, along with Tracy Ryerson.
The Wedding Date, which was published in 2018, is a contemporary romance about a lawyer named Alexa Monroe who gets stuck in a hotel elevator with a pediatric surgeon named Drew Nichols. The chance encounter leads to Alexa agreeing to accompany Drew to his ex-girlfriend’s wedding, sparking a long-distance romance.
Guillory can’t wait to see her Wedding Date characters come to life on the screen.
“Fun news to share today!” she wrote on Instagram. “Super excited for this! Thrilled to be working with Netflix, Tracy Oliver, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex!!!”
Fans of the book flooded Guillory’s post with congratulations and expressed their excitement for the upcoming movie.
“Omg this is AMAZING!!!! I’m so happy for you @jasminepics and especially with Harry and Meghan involved?! What a dream!!” one person wrote.
“Yes! Have been thirsting for a movie adaptation from the minute I finished reading this years ago. Congrats!” another commented.
The status of Meghan and Harry’s ‘Meet Me at the Lake’ movie adaptation is unclear
The Wedding Date is the second feature film adaptation in the works from Archewell Productions. In 2023, Netflix announced with was working with the Sussexes on a movie version of Carley Fortune’s Meet Me at the Lake. But there have been no further announcements about that film, leading some to suspect the project has stalled.
“By this point, you would have thought they would have got a director on board and a cast. So what is the delay?” a Hollywood source told Page Six earlier this year. “And when you make something for Netflix, it takes a long time for it to actually hit the streamer — there is so much to do in post production, to make sure it’s ready for every country. If the deal is up this year, then when is this film going to be made?”
Archewell Productions’ other projects for Netflix include With Love, Meghan, Polo, Heart of Invictus, and Harry & Meghan. Earlier in 2025, Meghan and Harry extended their high-profile partnership with the streamer in a multi-year, first-look deal.
