The Oscar-nominated actor, who is facing eviction from his Los Angeles home, has approved a GoFundMe that aims to raise money that will help him get back on his feet.

Mickey Rourke turns to GoFundMe to cover housing costs

Rourke has faced “years of struggle,” including “health challenges, financial strain, and the quiet toll of being left behind,” according to the fundraiser description. Now, he fears he might lose his home. The crowdfunding campaign – which was “created with Mickey’s full permission” – aims to “help cover immediate housing-related expenses and prevent [eviction] from happening.”

“The goal is simple: to give Mickey stability and peace of mind during an extremely stressful time—so he can stay in his home and have the space to get back on his feet,” the GoFundMe plea continues. The fundraiser has been organized by Liya-Joelle Jones, who is the assistant to Rourke’s manager Kimberly Hines.

As of January 5, the GoFundMe has raised more than $72,000. Jones told The Hollywood Reporter that it was “incredibly touching to see how many people care about him and want to help.”

The star of The Wrestler and Angel Heart received an eviction notice on December 18, the Los Angeles Times reported. He owes $59,100 in back rent on a three-bedroom, 2½-bath house that was once home to mystery writer Raymond Chandler. He signed the original lease in March 2025 for $5,200 a month; the rent was later raised to $7,000 a month, according to court filings.

Rourke’s had a rollercoaster of a career since first making waves in the 1980s for his roles in movies like Diner, Rumble Fish, and 9½ Weeks. His star dwindled due to personal problems, and he stepped away from acting to pursue a career as a boxer. That led to facial injuries that required reconstructive surgery and changed his appearance.

Rourke returned to acting with small roles in the later 1990s. His career rebounded in the 2000s with starring roles in Sin City and The Wrestler (the second earned him an Academy Award nomination). But he’s continued to struggle. In 2025, he appeared on Celebrity Big Brother UK, but he was kicked out of the house for inappropriate behavior, including homophobic remarks to castmate Jojo Siwa. He was originally supposed to be paid £500,000 for appearing on the show The Sun reported. But his fee was slashed due to his early eviction.

During his time on Celebrity Big Brother, Rourke confessed to taking out a $500,000 loan to make ends meet when acting work dried up during the COVID-19 pandemic and SAG-AFTRA strike.

“Two years of COVID and then a seven-month actor strike,” he said. “I had to borrow half a million dollars from the bank to get by and pay bills off.”
