Miley Cyrus Channels Madonna With Her Latest Look
One day after turning heads in a daring sheer black gown, Miley Cyrus was making waves with another dramatic look.
On Thursday, the singer was spotted in New York City wearing a vintage dress that nodded to one of Madonna’s most iconic looks. Miley’s chocolate brown bustier dress with embroidered cups and a lace-up front was from Jean Paul Gaultier’s fall 1990 collection, noted Vogue. Madonna famously wore a similar ensemble in eye-catching gold (and with a more exaggerated bust) during her Blond Ambition tour.
Miley, who was attending the Vanity Fair Director’s Dinner, paired the dress with a fringe skirt and pointy heels with an ankle strap. The pop star, who was all smiles as she greeted excited fans on June 5, has been in the news lately as she promotes her ninth album, Something Beautiful.
It’s not just Madonna’s fashion that Miley admires. The former Hannah Montana star has made no secret of her enthusiasm for Madonna as an artist. In 2014, the pair took the stage together during Miley’s MTV Unplugged special. And in 2022, she covered Madonna’s 1989 hit “Like a Prayer.” Meanwhile, Madonna has shown her support for her fellow Grammy winner. When Miley defended herself against accusations she’d cheated on her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth, Madonna made it clear she had her friend’s back.
“Thank GOD!!” Madonna commented on Miley’s Instagram post. “You are human! A woman has lived. No need to apologize!!”
At one point, Miley even hoped to get the pop queen to appear in one of her music videos. In 2013, she wanted to bring together some of her celebrity friends for a mud-wrestling music video for her song “4×4,” she recently said on the Every Single Album podcast (via Billboard). Unfortunately, her label nixed the idea.
“Madonna was down to mud wrestle with Miranda Kerr,” she said. “I was like, ‘I’m gonna get all these girls, all these supermodels, all these Victoria’s Secret models and all of these pop icons to come to my dad’s farm, get in the back of 4x4s, and we’re gonna mud wrestle, and we’re gonna go out and do doughnuts.”
